I remember in my first run through of OoT as a kid, I was having major trouble with the Water Temple. I was stuck, spent days and days backtracking, trying to figure it out. Thought I’d used a key for the wrong door or something and I’d refused to use a guide, and nothing could convince me otherwise. So I restarted the ENTIRE GAME That next run-through, I decided to use a guide just to be safe lol
I used a guide on the water temple, still can't beat it, stopped playing OoT for 7 years, then went back to it and beat it. I got so annoyed with the water temple that I actually didn't attempt it again for 7 whole years.
Water temple was not nearly as hard for me when I played the 3DS remake last year. Either because i'm older or i'm pretty sure they made it easier. I think I read that the switches that change the water level were labeled to how much water it would fill or empty this time? Idk something like that but I was dreading doing it again and then couldn't believe I had reached the boss room without too much trouble.
I think you could actually get permanently stuck in the water temple and lock yourself out of finishing the game
I remember being stuck *forever* in jabu jabu’s belly and then one day miraculously figuring it out somehow
I think it was the giant tentacle puzzle that stumped me? I honestly don’t remember what I was confused with.
The awkward control mechanics of a lot of the early N64 3D games often make them more of a challenge than they probably would be otherwise
Did nobody else struggle with the Forest Temple as a kid lol I also remember thinking the music was creepy af but great
I dont remember having too much trouble with any of the other dungeons although Bongo Bongo fucked me up a lot.
Shadow Temple is pretty tough, but Water Temple was hardest for me. Those water levels were a nightmare. Majora’s Mask is generally harder than OoT and kinda requires a guide IMO, especially figuring out how to time out different tasks during the three days.
Yeah I had to look up a lot of shit in Majora's Mask, that game was a genuine nightmare. Still one of the best experiences I've ever had with a video game.
Ages was more puzzle oriented, Seasons was more action heavy. Loved em both but I could never beat the final boss of the latter.
