That goes away thankfully. They adhere pretty rigidly to the book in the first season. Once they’re free to do what they want in the second season, well, by the end of the first episode...hoo boy. Hang on.
I thought they went into s3 knowing it was over, didn’t they? The series finale feels like way too much of a series finale compared to something like how s2 ended
I thought I read they knew they only wanted three seasons from the beginning. Doesn’t matter, they nailed the themes and message regardless.
Yeah they went into season 3 knowing it would be the final, but I don’t think 1 or 2 were made knowing that it would only be a 3 season show...I think ratings dictated that
Oh god, I’m going to finally get an avatar just so I can embrace my status as a hopeless Americans obsessive. Because that’s my favorite final season at the moment. Sopranos close behind.
I was about to tap out when Matt got mugged, but then he bashed his brains out and Love Will Keep Us Together started so now I’m back in.
That episode made me feel so bad for Matt. And then on our re-watch because I knew how it ended, I thought the mugging was how things went to shit so I was surprised all over again when he tackled the dude and beat the shit out of him lol But yes be warned the first season is exceptionally bleak and everyone is pretty depressed overall hah
Wait what do you mean how it ended?? I don’t know a single spoiler for this. Hope you just meant the episode! This is by far the best one yet.
Phew! I called a lot of what ended up happening but it was still super well done and some of it surprised me. The flashback/Billy Pilgrim type stuff was the best sequence of the series. I really hope he didn’t cause some of his wife’s problems by moving her, I was yelling all throughout that.
haha yeah I just knew he ended up losing the church at the end but I had completely forgotten that it wasn't because he lost the money to the mugging. So when he got up and beat the shit out of the guy I got a nice little re-watch surprise lol Yeah I remember saying something like "dude! don't move her" when I watched the first time. I feel like that's something everyone should know but I guess when you're frantic like that in the moment you lose a bit of logic
I love that that episode was called Two Boats and a Helicopter. Also the Jesus doll was wearing a very similar onesie to the kid who got baptized in the last one. I’m sure that means something but I have no idea what yet.
Season one is such a rough rewatch. Trying to power through it to get to the S2 and S3 stuff but I’m questioning the decision to watch all of it instead of 2 + 3
Stick with it, those last few episodes are so good, such a good emotional payoff with the characters and their acting
I’m very surprised to hear that this is number one all time for so many people while also having a generally negative view of one third of the series. I assumed it was a straight out of the gate masterpiece to most fans.
That scene at the tree was just brutal. I’m having sort of a hard time following why everything seems to basically be running as normal as far as “law and order” except for when it isn’t. Hope these episodes get into dealing with actual consequences for like everyone having their pictures stolen and this woman being murdered.
