I stayed up way past my bedtime last night beating the first one for the first time. what a game. some of my least fav types of games are prob survival, stealth, and third person shooters so its an achievement that this landed with me at all let alone engrossed me so much. the story was every bit as good as i had heard and the gameplay far exceeded the complaints i had seen about it online. im in no rush to play the sequel but am excited to eventually.

Joel and Ellie owe their fucking lives to dumpsters & wooden pallets.

Yep. Glad you digged it! It’s a wicked game critically acclaimed for a reason. Cannot fucking wait to play the sequel.

Pretty sure I just had a major plot moment spoiled for me by a random Youtube thumbnail/title.

God, those reviews. Currently sitting at 95 on metacritic from 70 reviews. Never a doubt!

Edit: My mistake, 96 from 79! (For perspective, GTAV's 97 was off only 66 reviews. Long way to go to beat RDRII's 97 off 99 reviews though)

Idk, after reading the Kotaku and Polygon reviews, a high score doesn’t exactly mean good things. Both basically say the game is well crafted but an absolutely miserable experience. And that it’s themes don’t necessarily do anything interesting, it’s just violence for the sake of violence.

I typed a whole load out about how I thought that Kotaku piece, while being a decent enough review, was a strange read for the most part (but there's no point in posting it lol). All I believe is that if the first game was being released now, there would be the same concerns about it's violence that Kotaku has about this game. Some of the shiv kills on human enemies, as one example, were so viscerally gross they still make me sqeamish to this day!

The other important thing to note about these reviews is that the embargo is insane with what can be talked about and can't be talked about. They could only show video footage from 3 levels already revealed. and couldn't discuss anything in the 2nd half of the game related to story. I found a screen shot from a video review and the below were the terms. I have been insanely hyped about this (probably my host hyped piece of media ever) so I'll play it first, but can't wait for the reviews to be updated to really talk about the story. I think a lot of sites have already said they'll update (or post a separate review) diving deep into spoilers (and I think a few sites have held back so they can really include everything). It's a thing I've started doing with reading, but every time I take a break (every 3 hours or so), I'm going to write down my thoughts. It helps remember the details and I'm sure this is going to be FULL of tiny easter eggs and emotional moments that will get lost by the end of the game.

    EMBARGO
    - DO NOT include beat by beat descriptions of pivotal narrative moments
    - DO NOT reveal the fate of ANY character or the inciting event.
    - DO NOT discuss any story details or character after Day (redacted).
    - DO NOT detail the end of the game.
    - DO NOT disclose locations other than those previously revealed
    - DO NOT revealed (redacted... redacteds) other than (redacted)

And related to the violence, I just got done with the 1st game again, and when you're playing as Ellie and jumping on people's backs stabbing them to death, it was pretty violent & gruesome and I'm sure one of the most violent games around back then (nothing cartoony or over the top about it). I think with all the talk of violence in part II, it really is SUPER violent, or people have just forgotten become desensitized to the 1st one.

Started replaying the first game for the first time in years, the beginning is still absolutely heart wrenching and the acting is already as amazing as I remembered. I don't even have the remaster, and the PS3 version still looks genuinely amazing

Anyone else preorder a physical copy directly from Sony? Mine says it should be delivered by release date but the order status still says preparing to ship. Really nervous I’m not gonna get it til next week.

I just did a replay on hard (the hardest I can handle) and it took me 16.5 hours. I died a lot as if i was ever trying to be stealthy and got caught I just let myself got shot so i could restart. Also maybe about 30 minutes of standing around as i took bathroom breaks/kitchen breaks. So maybe should have been 15 hours? still pretty long. SO excited to hear part 2 is around 30!

  25. Not sure if I'll actually start tonight, but I'm downloading it to my PS4! Finished watching a cutscene compilation of the first game yesterday. It's so good, and the emotional moments still get me.
