  1. i love a lot of the additions, i really do, but i think the things they changed worked against the story. the characterization feels weird, the reordering of events is unnecessary, and it's really heavy handed with its themes. like, dumbing it down for the part of the audience that probably won't get it anyway. what happened to show don't tell? it's like they don't trust us to be able to understand what the story is trying to say. well maybe they're right not to do so, ppl are pretty dumb

I think this largely depends on the story they are trying to tell. For example, I really loved the different view on Jesse this season, how pissed he was that he had to come to Seattle, and how invested he was in the safety of both Dina and Ellie. But depending on how things go, the relationship they built between Jesse and Ellie may not even pay off until S4! It provides such an extra layer of meaning to why she would go to Santa Barbara, but are we expecting the audience to wait for that for 4 years or longer?

I wonder sometimes how much thought goes into the age of streaming TV shows, and while these things might seem frustrating now, in 10 years time someone who gets to watch the entire series on HBO Max will have no complaints and the overall experience will be that much more compelling.

Washing up on the island was the most Marvel post credit-y thing I’ve ever seen an HBO show do.

Whole heartedly agree with the misstep in the Abby story telling. I feel like that would have still translated well to a TV audience with the way they introduced Abby in the game up until this point. I think they pay off is better. But what do I know!

When they showed the stadium at the end I got fucking goosebumps. I just love that part of the game

A lot of changes to THAT moment to make Ellie feel a bit more sympathetic to the general audience

I might pick this up finally and play it sometime soon, especially since the remastered just hit PC recently

The "I am pissed I am going to have to wait two years for the resolution of that cliffhanger" people are going to be really pissed when they realize that cliffhanger won't be resolved until the end of season 3 lol

Me yelling along "And you wasted it!!!!" at my TV in unison with Abby.

  11. The hanging scene bothers me bc when it happens to Abby it'll be less shocking to tv-only audiences. Plus that's the scene where Yara and Lev are introduced. Ellie didn't need to have this particular parallel in her timeline

Yeah I saw that and was like "wait they're doing the Lev scene with Ellie?"

apparently the scene with Ellie washing up on the island was originally in the game but ended up on the cutting room floor, according to the BTS stuff.

Also Halley Gross’s comments about that scene make sense but overall it just did not land they way they thought it would.

I can’t say it bothered me that much personally, but I get the complaints.

Very interested in how they make Abby’s story last at least (presumably) 7 episodes. Maybe we get a whole episode of their journey to Jackson? A standalone Yara and Lev episode? Her 3 days in Seattle are not enough to fill out a whole season IMO.

Probably a flashback episode with her dad and shit too could be a way to fill it out as well

I think they have said they want more episodes for next season but I could be mistaken

Wrote in the show thread already but yeah kinda disappointed in this season. We could have gotten one more and maybe have eased back on the Joel flashback ep. I actually thought this ep minus the island part was well done.

  21. Curious to see how Abby found the theater now with the tweak to the Mel/owen scene.

Also in typical fashion I ended up in the comments section of the ign review and holy shit at how offended some of these hateful fucking people still are over the “I’m gonna be a dad” joke and how they’re still making “jokes” about Bella’s appearance.

    they did yeah

  23. "I'm gonna be a dad" is imo one of the season's many minor fumbles which also include "you're gay I'm not" and "I love her but not like you," that add up to mischaracterize the main trio

But I mean, yeah, those guys in those comments sections are assholes. Bella's portrayal is fantastic, it's just the writing that sometimes sucks, and their appearance has nothing to do with it. Fucking losers.

Justice for “I’m gonna be a dad” - that scene was cute and just a laugh line in a season full of dark and heavy moments!

Going through some early blind reactions on YouTube and people seem to have really liked the finale which seems to be at odds with how game-players felt. Whatever gets enough eyeballs on the show to get S4 green lit to finish the story is fine with me!

The “dad” line also ties into Joel’s “I hope you do it better than I did” line. It’s think it’s a good line within that context.
