made it to the farm! look how happy they are! the end! time to exit the game!
the Tommy fight is so fucking annoying, maybe even more-so than the damn rat king
the island is still my favorite setting and ofc looked extra somber w/ black and white filter. but seeing Lev lose a mom and a sister back to back is so heartbreaking
and then the aquarium. such a tough scene to watch knowing what's waiting for Abby in there.
y'know what, yeah, i'll say it, i really like Abby, I was looking forward to the Ellie fight, to beat some sense into her.
but we know where this goes. and we know how this ends. Ellie losing so much of herself, and then losing everything else.
i'm dreading Santa Barbara.

infinite crafting and ammo, my favorite weapon to play around with has definitely been explosive arrows, followed closely by pipe bombs, which are a bit harder to use simply bc of the throwing and the delay, but being able to craft three at a time and hold six does wonders
i fully upgraded Abby's rifle this time around and really enjoyed the zoom+burst combo. i miss a lot of shots, though, so this definitely wouldn't have worked without infinite ammo haha
i definitely think i collected less weapon parts and supplements this time around, i remember having more upgrades and skills. if i ever do a third playthrough i might wanna be more thorough to open all the safes and find all the letters/cards/coins. playing in black and white has been a rewarding experience but liek it makes it kinda hard to see things

 

alrighty, finished second playthrough. man, the ending is rough.

i feel like i sound like a broken record at this point, but i really mean it, this game is so much sadder in black and white. the scene where ellie leaves dina. the scene where ellie finds abby. the final fight. everything is just that much more bleak with all the color taken out.

the commentary was really enlightening. they talked through the whole duration of the credits about what they went through re: the backlash to the game, esp laura. i didn't know this was happening at the time, and i feel really bad bc i love ashley and laura so much, in this game and everything else i've seen them in. i really really hope kaitlyn doesn't go through that, but i think it's kind of already started. ppl are gonna sit with joel's death for a year before seeing abby's side of things (on the show), and tbh by the end of this game i love abby as a character even more than ellie, who's really become quite villainous imo. idk if ppl have the media literacy or emotional maturity to have that change of heart, it seems like even after five years of the game being out there are so many haters who either missed the point or they get it but hate abby anyway. i don't think i've played any other game that made me question if i was still the good guy. it's such a powerful experience, seeing ellie's downfall and not being able to stop it; like, you have to go to santa barbara and see it through. i may question the way the show is handling the wlw stuff, but more than anything i just hope it presents its themes in a way that is effective enough that most of the viewers will feel how i did playing it. i do have faith in mazin et al, and esp the cast, it's just the fans i'm wary of at this point

 

I’ve been itching to continue my replay. I stopped around when you first meet Lev/Yara. Had other games occupy my time. The show has been so good and I want to play again

Ok, this was a pretty wild episode in terms of patchworking things together - I think it was largely successful. However, I just don’t know how they fit everything else into two episodes. I think some sequences are definitely cut now, but I do like how they set the stakes here. I was wondering how they would get Ellie alone to where she could embrace the vengeance, lol. I could have used one extra scene of Ellie sneaking around guards in the hospital to get to Nora, but we are queued up now for two really packed episodes to end the season.

 

Next week’s flashback episode is gonna break me

 

Flashbacks next week. Day 3 for the finale. Ending with the theater cliffhanger seems to be what’s gonna happen.

 

God next week is going to wreck me. I teared up the second she started Future Days, and the flashback at the very end.

 

A little bummed that we don’t get the Hillcrest section but I get it. I also thought that would be where we get Tony Dalton so it’ll be interesting to see where he comes in.

That sounds plausible.

 

Thought the condensing of lots of different scenes from the game mostly worked here. Though it was a little bit of whiplash going from Jesse showing up to the woods to the hospital so fast lol.

 

Yeah I wish Jesse had a bit more to his part. Gonna be quite jarring if he we only see him for a minute or two in episode seven only to get iced by the end of the episode.

 

The wooded park Scars scene was perfect. I wish they would have done the boss fight with the big ass sledgehammer Scar though.

 

I feel like that’s happening next season for sure lol

 

I was really hoping for this too - the scene they used, I could be wrong but isn’t that from Abby’s perspective in the game? Does she come upon the guy getting gutted, or does it happen twice - because I can vividly remember her at night during that sequence, but cannot remember what happens with Ellie.

EDIT: I was hoping for Ellie’s fight with the scar in the convenience store, just for clarity.

 

it was right after she escapes the woods where she encounters the Scars hanging someone for the first time.

I think that whole sequence was in the trailer for the game

 

Ellie never came across anyone getting hung but just went through the area, if she did it was from a bit away and wasn’t really a cut scene. Abby was almost hung herself and Yara and Lev saved her I believe, it’s been a while lol

 

God I wish it wasn’t going to be two years away but the Rat King scene is gonna be insane.

 

No, she does. She sees Seraphites hanging a WLF who begs similar to how the guy tonight did. But you’re right in that it’s not a cutscene. You just walk up to it as it’s happening in game.

 

I’m off work all this week and was planning to start Clair obscur finally but goddammit I think I’m going to replay both of these now lol
