Didn’t like this episode. It didn’t move the plot forward. I mean she never even got to eat the deer so she’s def too hungry to kick the plate of food away and not eat it. just kidding it was fucking awesome
I don’t miss having not played the game either. As just a watcher I think the pacing has been great. The way they’ve built the connection between Joel and Ellie feels authentic. These past few episodes have really articulated her care for him on such a deep level.
Ah. So that’s what the directors meant when they said “we’re gonna use violence to drive the story. not just meaningless acts in every episode” good episode imo
maybe I’ll feel differently on re-watch! at the end of the day it’s not a huge complaint, I’ve still loved what they’ve given us (better to want more than to want less I suppose). glad it’s working for those of y’all who haven’t played the game.
No I get and kind of agree that I wish we got more of their journey together. Just an extra 5-15 minutes every week of some bonding, maybe an extra infected fight here and there, etc. But like House of the Dragon it never leaves you bored just going from major event to major event every episode
If you dont play video games, or dont play this type of video game (linear, narrative driven) then no, youre not missing out. But if youve gotten any enjoyment from a 3rd person story driven, action game, then id always argue you need to play tlou. Just top tier. And im sure others will absolutely be baited by the show > game, but ill stay out of it except for this: Im trying hard to enjoy the show as its own thing, and pick out individual changes i like or dislike to discuss, but theres no way im ready to compare the 2 wholes against each other yet. I do know that i doubt ill play a video game i enjoy as much as tlou for a long time, but im not certain tlou show will even end up being my favorite show of the year.
God damn I still remember playing that part in 2013 and having to pause and take a break. Incredible.
goddamn another killer episode. that was the most intense thing I've seen probably since Mr Robot ended shoutout to @tdlyon for the recaps for us non game players each week too. king shit I appreciate it man
Just curious and not sure if the answer is a spoiler but did Ellie’s infection and immunity give her like extra strength or stamina? I could see this being a video game thing.
Some of the stuff she does seem a little out of the ordinary ability wise but I think that is just the result of the story originally being written for a video game and not something grounded fully in reality. Just like in the game Joel actually fell from the second story of a building and survived being impaled by rebar in the game, rather than getting stabbed with the broken end of a bat.
I preferred the shows ending. I had a big smile on my face when it was clear the show wasn't going to have Joel come in and intervene/ save the day. It just finds Ellie more agency in that moment.
Yeah they’ll talk about all of it. they usually have a small non-spoiler section at the beginning but it’s brief.
