Still killing it I only caught a quick glimpse but did they show the back of another young girl's head in the preview? Abby?
Great ep. I remember playing this section of the game pretty well, so the ep felt very condensed in comparison, but they nailed the important beats.
I still literally cannot believe this show exists. Like holy fuck, I don't think I have ever seen an adaptation this good Bella is an absolutely astounding actress, I cannot wait to see where her career goes. I really hope everyone that was shitting on her casting is now realizing this may be the definitive version of Ellie
I think it’s likely Ashley Johnson as Ellie’s mom (which has been in trailers), but obv we won’t know until next week.
Extremely intense. I’m so desensitized to violence in video games but for some reason it bothered me much more to watch it this way.
I changed it but it’s been known since the first full trailer. Obviously not explicit but there is nothing else it could be.
The only part that maybe felt excessive was her killing David. But seeing as she just survived almost being sexually assaulted and then likely chopped up into little pieces, her emotions pushing her to keep going makes sense. Edited for clarity
For non-game players This post may be pretty short because this episode was almost exactly like the game. Ellie goes out to hunt for food and kills a deer (you play as her for the first time for the majority of this section of the game), where she runs into David and his friend in the woods. It happens like in the show where they make a deal and the friend leaves, leaving Ellie and David camping in the cabin. In this section of the game infected come and they have to fight them off together, but after that the reveal of how sinister David is happens pretty much exactly the same. There is a section after this where Ellie goes and sneaks into the lodge that they cut (I don't remember why), but then the men do come to the town where Ellie and Joel are holed up and she does try to lure them away, leading to them killing the horse and capturing her. Joel then wakes up and violently interrogates the two guys in pretty much exactly the same way, the scene with Ellie in the cage plays out pretty much exactly the same (with even a lot of the same dialogue)... this may have been the most faithful episode yet. This section ends with a fucking intense boss fight with David in the burning building that I don't think the show quite captured but it didn't really need to (he does this creepy ass crouch walk and you don't know exactly where he is and he just sneaks up on you laughing), and then when he tries to do what he tries to do to Ellie, she kills him with the machete and just keeps chopping and screaming and crying much like the show, although Joel actually comes in and grabs her and hugs her while she's doing this instead of meeting her outside; I actually like the game version of this better because he essentially snaps her out of it Only real difference I can think of is that I don't think David was a preacher/religious in the game but it did add an even creepier element to his character so I really liked that. And final fun fact, the actor that played James (guy with the beard/beanie) was Joel's voice actor Turns out the post was still not short
My wife was raging pretty hard about Joel being seemingly on his death bed with hardly any food and water one second to going on a murdering spree the next.
