I know it’s irrational but I just finished His Dark Materials and while that show really stuck the landing, the rest was somewhere between pretty meh and straight up awful and I can’t help but lower my expectations for TLOU as a result.
A movie critic friend of mine just got this in his inbox. Will probably have to block him for a few weeks.
Against all odds I've never played the game and have no idea how the story will play out, I just hope Pedro drops this line when he finds her and swears to protect her or whatever
I'm honestly pretty amazed you haven't had it spoiled for you. My hope is that everyone who hasn't played the game(s) is as lucky as you, but for some reason I don't see that being the case.
I wouldn't worry about TLOU too much based on His Dark Materials, since I think that was mostly a BBC Production that just aired on HBO in the US.
I've been very good about not reading spoilers in here and have purposefully stayed away from googling it or looking at twitter posts about it....but I know tha'ts gonna be MUCH harder once the show starts airing
I kind of felt the same way, but I wonder if I just feel that way because I've played the game and know the context of all of these scenes? Maybe the trailers aren't as spoilery to someone who doesn't know the context of everything? Idk, that's just my hope.
Yeah most of the trailers are totally fine and look great but the fact that Ellie’s bit is in the trailer is a big missed opportunity that plays well in the game imo and now is just out there weeks before the show. I get that you gotta draw people in somehow but it takes a lot out of that part of the story if you already know that.
Amazing lol, Shannon Woodward helped get Craig Mazin on board for the show (she voice acted a main character in the TLOU2 for those who haven’t played the games)
I read somewhere the first season is gonna cover all of the first game? So a season 2 would be the second game? Let's gooooooood. Having just finished the second one last week, I'm excited even more for the show and it's future.
I really figured season 2 would cover the ‘inbetween’ of the games. Surprised they’ll move straight to Part 2. Sounds good to me either way
I'd def like to see more, but I guess it depends on if they feel they have enough content to add or if they can structure it like the game did via flashbacks. I don't wanna see a Game of Thrones situation where the show catches up to the source material and then does it's own thing. I mean, TLOU3 is still a ways off. I guess we'll see when this premieres if it's a big enough hit (which it will be I think) that HBO orders more, which would prob influence to make season 2 the 'inbetween' years to pad it out. Cuz remember there IS quite a bit of time between the two games.
I still have yet to see a direct quote from the creators that it's covering the ENTIRE first game, just "will cover events from the first game". It seems like a mistake to jam the entire first game into 9 episodes. The commercials I've seen also seem to include Left Behind as well. And (spoilers for Part 2) killing off Pedro in the beginning of the second season also seems like a bad idea. Would prefer season 1 and 2 cover the first game, with additional content. Joel can die in either season 2 finale or season 3 premiere
Yeah it'll be interesting to see where it ends. I could definitely see them maybe holding the spring act for season two and then introducing Abby (don't google her character if you don't want major spoilers) and showing us some of both her and Ellie in the years between games leading up to where they are at the start of part 2 for season 3. Neil and Craig have said this first season will feature new material but it sounds like it's still going to be considered canon for the games series, so the could definitely do that in season 2 as well.
if Bill is episode 3, I can see it covering the entire game. Haven’t been this excited for a show in a long time. TLOU is by far my favorite video game series and the combo of HBO and Craig Mazin writing makes me feel pretty confident that we’re going to get something special.
Craig Mazin has said he hates filler and wants to keep things moving. I would not be surprised if season 1 covers either the entirety of the first game or most of it.
Honestly I'd like season 2 to end at the theater, then season 3 pick up exactly where the game picks up. First game and Left Behind in all of season 1 is definitely......something.
So we're definitely deviating from the game as the promo material has spoiled basically the 1st half of the game, and I can only think they'd do that because they know they have new surprises in store. The latest video, a behind the scenes by HBO so it's sanctioned, discusses Sara's death and how it shaped Joel and I can't believe they didn't leave that for a show reveal. They also have candidly said in the trailer that Ellie is immune that was kept under wraps the entirety of the games promotion. The only thing they haven't shown that happens in the early part of the game is Tess's death. I was going to point to the new hollywood reporter article that it covers the whole first game, but still just sounds like an assumption. I misread the first time and took it as confirmation. Also, I just finished part II and am playing the part 1 ps5 remake (which is absolutely STUNNING, and well worth it btw) and it's pretty story light to be honest... I'm not at all concerned with trying to do all of it + left behind in 9 episodes. It doesn't waste any time at all moving from beat to beat. In 2 hours of gameplay, I'm at Bill's place. The only way you can't do it in 9 is you decide to show more of the downfall of society after the outbreak. That's basically explained in a 1 minute news recap over the credits and boom, flash forward, onto the current story.
HA! I'm so glad I saw this and it was clarified as I was thinking of Shaliene Woodley the whole time and was like uhhh, that's an odd friendship. Does Neil know Aaron Rodgers too?
yeah the behind the scenes that they just posted was surprising to be sure. Even Neil retweeted saying SPOILERS and I'm still shocked they revealed THAT. I'm hoping people don't see the video or don't pay attention so that way when it happens they feel the shock that we felt in the game. Likewise,I finished part 2 last week. Blew me away. Loved every second of it. Seeing that adapted for TV is gonna be something else. I plan on getting the PS5 remake once it goes on sale for ~40. Part 2 on the PS5bolayed amazing, so I can only imagine how part 1 runs seeing it was made FOR the PS5. byouband me both! I was so confused at first!
