Yeah I honestly thought the Kathleen character was still the weakest part of the show so far. Through no fault of Melanies', just the writing for her was a little weak and the closest thing this show has come to cliche A minor complaint though, it won't take away any points or anything for me
big thicc boi rippin heads off was fun echoing the glad melanie is done with sentiments. only 4 episodes left??
Preferred the part of the game version where we don’t know Sam has been bit until the morning when he starts turning. Show version with Ellie trying to save him with her medicine blood didn’t really land for me but otherwise yeah another sick ep. Melanie was good and her character was fine, overall much better development than this section of the game.
Kathleen character was much more clear this episode. Her conveniently self-serving speech about kid deaths being natural/fate was the perfect setup to infected kid jumping 15 feet in the air on to her face. I was moshing during that scene.
Kid logic/wishful hope of her blood being literal medicine made the inevitability of what was going to happen to these kids more soul crushing, IMO.
knowing the end of the season from the games, both Henrys and Kathleens speechs and comments about good guys, bad guy things, fate, kids die all the time etc. all felt extremely on the nose and corny and hammering home a point that should be left more subtle. I get its foreshadowing Joels actions and the ambiguity of it all, and will go over the heads of thise that dont know the ending at this point, but as a game fan i found a lot of the dialogue a bit cringey and 'okay, i get it Craig'.
Fair but isn’t it like, an immediate cut from Ellie and Sam talking at night, Ellie goes to sleep and then they reveal Sam’s bite when he’s alone, then one second later in the cutscene it’s the next morning and Ellie goes to wake Sam etc. In the game, none of the other characters know Sam’s infected before he’s turned and I just thought the timing of that reveal for the other characters was really effective. I get that this change could feed into the savior complex they’re building out more for Ellie in the show and it adds to the uncertainty about a cure, I’m still on board with the show overall but just not my personal preference in this specific instance.
Ellie thought Kurtzman & Orci were on to something with the stupid “magic blood” thing they wrote into both Star Trek Into Darkness and Amazing Spider-Man 2
Sorry for not digging if the answer is already here - but is @Jason Tate ignoring this show? Nothing written about them in the newsletter, so I assume so.
100% agree, although I think it does land on Melanie a bit. Her delivery was just...off on like every single line.
(Avoiding all posts in this thread.) Not watching until it’s finished so we can watch all at once during the week.
i genuinely cannot imagine how emotionally ruined id be just watching these last 5 episodes back to back to back to back to back. dangerous strategy!
Having a week to think about each episode and reflect on them with other game/show fans has been great, especially that third episode. I’d be curious what the experience would be like binging the whole series and breezing through everything.
Not having a week to process episode two (my favorite this far) before having to process episode three is a very bold choice
i think about that every time someone tells me they’re binging Game of Thrones for the first time lol
So yeah holy shit this episode. That horde scene and the big boy. I guess they’re called bloaters? Just looked like a giant clicker to me. My wife thought it was kind of stupid haha
I spoiled the show for myself and just started episode 5. Started bawling as soon as I saw Sam's face.
Yea, this is one of those times where a week break in between helps. This show keeps me going each week.
I mostly agree with this take. They didn't really have time to go too in depth with her character, but there's enough there with Lynskey's performance that it worked for me.
