Lol memories of the “how did they get to the wall so quickly” time are rushing back to me …. Last week we were 10 miles west of boston and now we’re in des moines?? Lmao

Definitely not the most eventful episode but I still love how directly they're adapting the game, the porno mag scene was almost word for word which brought a huge smile to my face. The joke scene at the very end was super nice too, I actually totally forgot about the Ellie joke book bit from the game so it's awesome to see that so prominently featured

Am I the only one that thinks Melanie Lynskey's character is... bad so far though?

I kind of can't tell. The writing I guess? Because I know she's a great actress

its bad character/writing. “Over the edge post apocalyptic group leader” we’ve unfortunately seen done over and over by now thanks to many other shows.

 

Yeah her character does seem a bit unnecessary so far

I checked the time at like 9:39 and was like “wait it’s only 9:39? It feels like we’ve been at this for longer” and then 5 minutes later the episode ended and I was like “wait what the fuck that’s super short” haha

 

For non-game players curious about the game (let me know if I should keep doing this):

This was a pretty straight adaptation, Joel and Ellie drive into the city (which is Pittsburgh in the game, not Kansas City) and are ambushed and get into a shootout. Main difference is you kill a lot more people, and there's a big set piece where you go through a big hotel that I think the abandoned building at the end of this one is replacing. That's where Ellie kills her first person, in a pretty similar scene. Melanie Lynskey's character is not in the game, they're basically just faceless thugs that you're going against
This section of the game is mostly gameplay so the shorter runtime makes sense

 

That diarrhea joke was funny.

 

It seems subtle but ellie already being able to mention tess after last episode without drawing ire from joel is great development for their relationship**
