Seasons 2 and 3 are a great example of how you can have fun with your characters, even if the content is heavy or dark. When the show is heavy and depressing and the creators are also making the show with a heavy, depressing hand, it’s too much IMO. The Bill and Frank episode reminded me of Leftovers in how much humor, love, sadness, and fun it mined from a bleak scenario.

The Leftovers Season 1 was just a wild ride of "Wtf is going on?!", but it's also obviously incredibly bleak and depressing. 2 and 3 it felt like they decided to start having a bit more "fun" with the "wtf is going on?!" moments. I love all the seasons but it's hard to deny 2/3 have a bit of a different vibe than 1.

Leftovers. A show where we look at a society dealing with a semi apocalyptic event, and it's not about the event itself, but about humanity's ability to cope. Great soundtrack. Emotional moments. Amazing show. Leftovers and Children of Men are my kings of "post apocalyptic" programing.

I'm seeing they're going for similar story telling. Episode 3 is definitely something that they would do. A standalone episode that pulls at the heart string.

And I hate to be a tetra here but I didn't really think episode 3 was anything that special. I never met these characters up until that episode, so a tragic backstory isn't really getting me in the feels like it would if this episode was somewhere more down the line, or the nick Offerman character was still alive and this was his backstory or something.

I'm not saying the show is bad. Not saying theyre not putting effort. Just I don't think this is a journey I'm invested in yet. Maybe it will change

Wow. I honestly feel like you can just watch this third episode in a vacuum and maybe be a little confused / lost about the weird zombie guy in the Cumby's basement and the details of the overall disaster that has obviously befallen society but still enjoy and be incredibly affected by the Bill & Frank scenes just due to the strength of the acting and filmmaking on display.

In my previous post that's been spoiler-blocked I can see maybe blocking out the word last in the first block, but I don't get the need to block out any of that second block at all. Is it a spoiler to say that Murray Bartlett's incredible acting made me cry...? I've never played any of the games and I'm a week late to the discussion of how great the episode was.

  13. probably unnecessary, but generally speaking it's better to go over than under, I know some people are posting here after starting the show having only seen one episode. I know at this point it's likely people have gotten the gist of episode 3 just from the press/reviews, but just trying to preserve some of the details

Ngl I thought it was some internet slang for a gay couple or specific type of gay character in a tv show or something before I realized they were referring to Cumberland Farms lol

Discussion of aired episodes do not need spoiler tags. As always, if someone chooses to use them, that’s cool. But if it’s aired, it’s free to discuss openly. If people are behind and come in here, I truly don’t get it.

I don't think I've heard the phrase "Cumberland Farms" spoken aloud in decades haha

so much so that it never even occurred to me that Cumbys almost sounds kinda dirty until just now when people brought it up

The spoiler tags were in reference to things that happen in the game, which I think are fair. Also spoiler tags are super easy to use and view. Its an incredibly small deal

I wasn't trying to start shit bringing up the spoiler blocks added to my post - I was just genuinely surprised because I tried to keep it spoiler-free when I typed it out. I do realize the word 'last' could be considered spoilery in hindsight.
