Yup. It's staggering how some people approach their shows and stories. I've seen so many childlike responses to TLOU like 'needs more action/ needs to focus on the main characters/ they missed this bit out from the game'. That's even before all the bigotry and homophobia.

Are people incapable of receiving a story the way the writer intended rather than projecting what they want to personally see on screen and then being disappointed it's not playing out that way?

Release My Mind, My Garden Grows

If my memory serves me right The Leftovers was a very weird and mysterious show where the more you watch, the more questions you have. Its like Lost on steroids in terms of mystery box plot points that never really get answered. The Last of us is great so far but the only thing similar between the two is the hard focus on character development over plot. The similarities end there.

I’ve never watched. But isn’t their first season not that great? I feel like everyone says it got good in season 2.

i don't really see any connections to The Leftovers in TLOU, but, to each their own.

The Leftovers is such an underrated show. Quick binge too with only 28 episodes.

The Leftover S1 is good, yet a fairly more straightforward story that flirts with the more abstract plot pacing and themes in S2-S3. TLOU, at least as of now, is a much more grounded story and shouldn’t be compared to it, imo

Finally got a chance to watch Episode 3. Holy shit.

Even after reading everyone's comments here and sorta knowing what was coming, the shot of old Frank sitting alone in the dining room while he's waiting for Bill to come out with their last dinner where he looks around the room was the part that got to me. Their entire storyline was packed with incredibly affecting moments, and both actors were absolutely phenomenal, but the way Murray Bartlett looks around the room and the expression on his face in that moment was where I actually started crying.

So looking forward... I'm pretty pleased with the pacing so far, and feel like the overall series length and where we are in the plot compared to the game, is remarkably similar pacing. I can see the remaining events of the game easily fitting into 6 episodes without it feeling rushed.

NO SPOILERS (promise) but things I hope they add that weren't in the game and things I think they'll need to change/tweak.

    - ADD: More detail on how Joel and Tommy ended up in their respective locations 20 years after Austin. It's alluded to in the game, but I hope we get some cold opens, or additional dialogue/context to show when/why/how their paths diverged. I really wasn't sure if Tommy was going to be a former firefly in the show until it was dropped this last episode. In the game, they are more estranged than they appear to be in the show.
    - ADD/CHANGE: In the trailer, some new characters were shown and talked about in interviews, and I wonder how and when they will feature and what function it was deemed they'd play that couldn't have been done with anything/anyone already in the game.
    - ADD/CHANGE: There's a certain section with Ellie and Joel that I wonder if they will drop or heavily change. It relies a lot on 'it's a video game, don't think too hard' sort of logic. With how gritty and 'realistic' they've made the show, I can see a big portion of the plot not really working all that well.

    Go Birds

Decided to give the show a go this week after some of the comments in here. Just watched episode three last nigh and i was surprised that i didn't get too choked up for ep 3. Makes me feel a little bit like a robot, haha.

I was caught off by how emotional i got when his daughter died in the beginning. Great show so far. LOVED episode 3.

Anyone else think the whole "world ended at the same time in the same day" rhetoric due to everyone somehow eating the same food that was released on shelves all in the same day makes no fucking sense? Like, objectively it would make more sense that this was a gradual thing. Planes crashing because it just takes over suddenly doesn't really make sense to me. But i guess the Jakarta initial source was a food facility, right? IDK, that plot point when Joel was explaining it to Ellie didn't really click for me.

Ellie being able to keep Joel alive, safe, and medicated to recover after he was impaled. I don't see a way to keep it in the show exactly that way. It always felt a bit too unrealistic in the game but you just had to accept it. I am fine if Joel gets hurt and Ellie has to fend for herself, but to that level of injury will be hard to buy in the world they've established so far

]How rushed the military got involved, and how quickly and chaotically everything broke down was a bit unrealistic. I guess though it wasn't exactly at the same time. I think the news bit on the radio from Jakarta implied that different cities were slightly behind or ahead of each other, but the Fri-Mon thing does a seem a bit of a stretch. I could sort of see it though, so it's something I thought of it, but wasn't really bothered enough to say 'plot hole' or 'absolute bullshit'.

I don’t think that’s a good example though. The whole world didn’t do lock downs on the same day, week, or month from covid.
I also just don’t think if people were turning into zombies the show has an “unrealistic” rapid response haha. All bets are off if that happens.
I do always think there should be more people being like can you believe the fucking zombie thing happened??!! Like of all apocalypse possibilities we’re in the zombie simulation? Come on I’d be pissed!
