they nailed the clickers so perfectly. also really love the BTS stuff after each episode, i hope they keep it up throughout the season.
Yup. The BTS stuff is so a nice little treat. The clips also help you to unwind after the intensity of the show.
Few people mentioned the reloading. Are you talking about the revolver? I don't remember that connection to the game, aside from the fact you reload in the game. What am I missing?' Also, not only Joel moving things, but the walls falling behind them so you can't get out. Yeah, watch the scene when they're walking on the overpass. She mentions another mutation "rumor" she hears about! When Joel stepped on the glass, I was hoping that was going to be a scene where he grabs a piece and carries it around. The museum scene was so well done. Felt like you were right in the game. The clickers movement was spot on too. I don't remember Bill being funny in the game. Was he? The preview looked like a whole different show with the Arby jokes.
the museum set piece was straight out of the game, i can't believe how accurate they've made everything
I think this will be a big change and expansion to story, but Bill in the game was dry and sarcastic and mistrusting. I get the feeling that show Bill will be (un?)ironically funny, as in those mannerisms become the butt of the joke vs him being aware and cracking them. (Which is what happened with the Arbys comment, it was Frank that made the 'joke' in the trailer because BIll was also serious like 'get off my property you free loading bum;). I also think that some major Joel backstory will be fed into the show via this storyline. I don't think we will get a pre-outbreak cold open next week, but rather a flashback of either Bill or Frank alone or how they relate to Joel. I think the pacing is pretty good so far, and it mirrors the game. If you take the whole season as being about 10 hours (give or take), we're 20% in, and I feel that's about the timeline for Bill being introduced. It hasn't felt rushed, or slow to me.
It's silly, but I'd like to see a couple looting scenes too. Just Joel taking ammo off a table, or grabbing a bandage and it'll make my day.
That and walking across planks of wood in high spots. And yeah, when Joel's reloading it as he hides around the corner from the clicker. Just a tiny moment but still cool lol Also yeah, Bill was a pretty funny guy in the game
my only issue with this show so far is the way information is conveyed can feel pretty clunky. like there's no real reason Joel would wait until a literal life or death situation to tell Ellie the clickers use sound to locate them not vision. it's a very "how are we going to maximise tension for the viewer" thing that just makes the character seem careless also had they just established that in a dialogue scene they could have clarified it only applies to the evolved clickers not all of them, I had literally no idea of that till just now reading this thread lol
Really enjoying this so far, have always wanted to play the game but can't fork over the cash for a console atm. Also, if no ones listening to the companion podcast I recommend it.
Infection type spoilers Yeah, the ones we've seen the most are called Runners, they're your typical zombies, look very human, but are infected recently. Then you have Stalkers, these are like the middle ground between Runners, and Clickers. In the game, they are usually stuck in the fungus in the walls, and break free to attack. Clickers are what we saw last night, they can't see. The fungus has taken over and the use echolocation. They're also way stronger than the previous too. There's still a few mutations we haven't seen yet.
lol thanks for this, I also thought clickers was just the generic term for the zombies in this show like walkers. I didn't realise it only describes the strongest ones it would probably do them well to lay this out in the show for us dummies who don't have consoles. but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they're building up to it instead of dumping too much exposition on us straight away. great stuff overall either way
I expected this to be a great show, but I think what surprising to me is how great it is while not just honoring the story of the game but the gameplay itself. There are times when it really feels like it feels to play (yes, the clicker scene) and just little details like Joel moving the cabinet. But it doesn't seem cheesy or take you out of it. I've been super bummed at the end of both episodes cus I just want to keep watching.
I would imagine that the mutations would be taught to kids in schools, if the quarantine zones had any sort of schools.
For those interested, you can buy the exact jacket that Pedro is wearing in the show; I got mine a year ago and love it https://huckberry.com/store/shop/flint-and-tinder-flannel-lined-waxed-trucker https://huckberry.com/journal/posts...waxed-canvas-trucker-jacket-in-the-last-of-us
I absolutely love these and have wanted one for years. That's a little (a lot) outside of my budget but I've found a few lesser-priced not quite as cool but similar jackets.
