I watched the first episode of season 2 and then stopped. Since then, I’ve tried to avoid show-specific spoilers but some headlines did slip through about the show’s ratings and possibly quality dipping hard. Can someone provide show-specific spoiler-free insight on season 2 quality/whether it’s worth re-prioritizing (been spending all my free time on video games and not in mood for serious TV lately)? I really liked season 1 and love both games.
It’s worth watching. Knowing you played, the ratings dip is related to the major death for the most part. Some losers were dinging it online, like on IMDb and such, because they don’t think Bella Ramsey is attractive (who cares) and also Ellie and Dina’s relationship stuff. There are some changes but I really don’t think they were that detrimental to the quality. Some complaints because they softened Ellie a bit but I personally understand the change. Isabela Merced as Dina was fantastic. There is also an episode that gave Long, Long Time from season 1 a run for its money.
Absolutely for the best cmon lol. Craig has the juice. Once again Neil and the other ND writer were heavily involved this season.
Honestly, the more upsetting part of his statement is "before any meaningful work starts on season 3"
Also the majority of people who’ve complained about the season wanted it to be a 1:1 adaptation. Just play the game or watch a YouTube compilation of cutscenes if that’s the case.
I disagree with how they've set it up. There have been 2 complaints that are almost unanimous and they're around the dialogue and pacing. How do you fit Abby's whole story (which is almost double Ellie's in the game) into another season and not run into the same pacing problems and some poor dialogue trying to rush the story along? Man, after such a promising start, it really did fizzle out with this 2nd season. No one is going to be excited by 2027 besides gamers.
I think it’s really impressive how this show simultaneously drags things out and rushes things at once
The longer I let season 2 sit, the more I think that it didn't match the quality of season 1. Don't get me wrong, it was still a decent season of television. But I'm not sure they did the game as much justice as season 1 did (outside of 1 or 2 episodes). Neil's episode was absolutely the highlight though.
I just love that later that same episode they show an establishing shot of Bill’s town, where you can clearly see Boston on the horizon and not a mountain in sight.
Seeing Gustavo Santaollala, the guy who does the guitar score for the show, live tonight here in Oslo - pretty stoked
