I am getting more excited for next season just based off y'all all saying it will be controversial and divisive lol (<----- knows nothing about the games)

This show doesn't need to be 4 seasons. Do Abby stuff for first 6 episodes, and then the last 2 or 3 finish where S2 ended.

It needs to be 4 seasons in order to cover the third game

They're gonna base the fourth season on Factions but then cancel it during production, for accuracy.

They could have easily fit the entire game in 2 seasons with 10 episodes each. Limiting S2 to 7 episodes was a bonkers idea

Fortunately the episodes themself were mostly pretty long. Idk what they could have done with a 8th or 9th episode, but some breathing room and expansion on the world have been nice. Of course same with S1. Two entire episodes were bottle episodes. S1 for 100% sure needed more time with Joel and Ellie bonding together than what we got to see.

I do kinda think the episodes in this show are just too long tbh, always feel like they're about to end 3 different times. without losing any of the content you coulda made this season 10 40-minute episodes pretty easily

This season just felt wayyyy too much like a paint by numbers video game cinematic adaption, and it was not due them recreating a ton of shots from the video game almost exactly because that happened in season 1. I am not even sure what pushed it to feel like that to me but there were just dialogue moments and the more noticeable A to B to C nature of the season and then where they decided to place the other scenes/moments outside of the main story that make this season feel off to me. Still think there were some overall good moments but it did not get in the same ballpark as Season 1 did for me.

My biggest issue throughout this season was that Ellie was written and performed as more of less the same character as she was in season one and the couple episodes before Joel’s death. Not only does it not track with the character in the game, who becomes borderline unrecognizable in her tunnel vision for revenge, but it doesn’t track with logical human behavior at times.

I can’t remember if someone posted it here or not, but I saw an edit where someone added a laugh track to some of the Ellie and Dina scenes and I gotta say, it played

  11. I think I'd like this season a lot more if it didn't have all the unnecessary dialogue ie too much exposition and comic relief. and put the Joel flashbacks where they're supposed to be. Gimme that fan edit, 10/10

Edit: oh, and any dialogue that's out of character. Three things

I agree that this season would have been received better if the characterization was more consistent. The comic relief does feel overdone in hindsight.

  13. I can feel for the people who love the game and are sad that the show and the game aren't hitting at the same level, but personally i think i'm pretty glad i just watched the show and didn't have anything to compare it to. Now if i ever go play the game it can only get even better.

These are why adaptations are so hard to watch because define out of character? Imo, they were consistent with the dialogue based on how they wrote the characters for the show so I don't constantly compare to the game. There's now game Ellie, and show Ellie, and both are written / tackled differently. Do I like that, or did I want that? sort of and no, but it's where we are. So when show Ellie behaves in a way that game Ellie wouldn't, I'm not necessarily going to label it as out of character if it's how show Ellie would behave. (This goes for all characters). So I think everyone was consistently written from s1 to now.

I did think we'd get flashbacks as cold opens, but then the actual cold opens we got were cool, and the flashback episode for me worked as one whole thing with the birthdays tying the events together.

Jesse deserved to go out better than that. Too fast. He should have received at least one “I’ll see you in another life brother” type goodbye

Finished the last few eps of S2 yesterday and mostly enjoyed it. I’m kinda surprised they’re sticking with the narrative structure of the game, but I really like Abby’s story and am glad to get (presumably) a whole season of it.

And maybe it’s been discussed to death, but if they’re going to do it this way it seems odd to reveal who Abby is so early only to barely see her for the rest of the season, would have made for a better season ending twist than a gunshot cliffhanger.

Kaitlyn Dever is great though, stoked to see more of her as Abby, idc about continuity I hope she goes method and gets totally yoked for S3 so that it will still make sense tonally for her to punch out infected

Jesses thing happened so fast I didn't even realize or process what happened fully until the behind the scenes part! And because it happened so fast I'm still in denial about it. It's fine everything is fine

seems pretty odd to mostly blame craig for this season when it seems like the episodes people have been most critical of are the episodes where people from the game’s production are the most involved in the writing and directing

and nevermind that craig is responsible for the bill and frank episode, right?

Every reel I see comparing the show to the game is like, a scene where Ellie delivers a line slightly differently with a caption saying, “What were they thinking?!?”

The only line I can think of that I sort of rolled my eyes at was the “I’m gonna be a dad”. It was just so polar opposite of Ellie’s reaction in the game that it seems…odd. I can’t think of any other line that felt weird to me.

Idk what it says about me and/or my bf but he is fully frustrated with Ellie putting her need for revenge above others. basically everything Jesse said. Which I agree with what Jesse said too. But I also feel like many people in her position witnessing that level of trauma with really the only father figure she's known would feel the same desire to enact revenge.

So basically I feel all bloodthirsty and vengeful and my boyfriend is the pious Jesse in the situation. But also if I was Ellie I likely would've given up my revenge plot several obstacles ago. But I still relate to her plight and she hasn't completely alienated me like she seems to have for my bf. But also when my dad dies I'll probably have a full mental breakdown so then I'm back to being empathetic with Ellie
