Them doing season 3 as Ellie and season 4 as Abby would be fine, if it wasn’t for the massive gap between seasons. We’re basically people to wait a year for the new season, only to almost certainly end up about 10 minutes further down the timeline than we already are. That said, if we’re right about that being season 3, it should be brilliant. That part of the game RULED imo.
Since they recently said they might need a season 4 to cover the rest of the game. Yes this is the assumption.
Non-gamer view, I wasn’t really enamoured with any of that finale. Also, having hate watched my way through the back half of The Walking Dead, I’m just not that keen on seeing Abby’s view for a season and ending back here again in 2-3 years time.
The boat sequence and her being caught for five seconds felt like a weird tonal shift that didn't go anywhere. I kinda wanted her to try and cut out that baby I mean at that point what's there to lose and dinas baby could've had a sibling and they'd have a perfect dysfunctional lil family and next season could've been a sitcom
'The Last of Us' Season 2 Finale Viewership Down 55% From Season 1 I definitely think it’s because the structure, which hopefully they fix in season 3. Also because of the lack of Pedro, which they can’t fix.
i'm sure once they complete the story it'll definitely be one hell of a binge. until then, the waiting between seasons--hell, between episodes--is doing it no favors. this is why i was hoping they'd restructure the story for the show.
I do think that ending it on Memorial Day weekend in the US also plays a part in people not watching yet.
Season 3 would be Abby and 4 would be Ellie tho.......there's zero way to do what you said because what would S3 even be about, what Ellie story is there to continue on? We were literally shown ABBY SEATTLE DAY 1 Also, if you want to talk spoilers the game thread is right here, I'm sure non game viewers don't want this place cluttered with black bars. There were a few good episodes this season, even if the structure and changes from the game were bad imo. Huge step down from S1, but still a solid like 6/10. Not a fan of know this is going 3 seasons for 1 game.
I really enjoyed this season a lot, even if the reviews were that it was a step down. Coming into this blind, I don’t have a game to constantly refer back to and compare against.
I gotta play them both. Unless PlayStation removed it since then, I have the PS5 remaster of the first game free with my PS Premium account
For a short episode length, they packed just about everything in that they needed to, plus some that they didn't. The behind scenes explained some choices a little, but not enough for me to like them (yes - its mainly about how Ellie ended up on the island for all of 5 minutes...) I dont mind the cliffhanger or find it weak / cheap but maybe id feel differently if i didnt know the plot (though i doubt it - cliffhangers seem love or hate in general and im pro). S3 will have insane set pieces and fill in a lot of story gaps, but it didnt work for enough people in the game, it may not work for tv audiences either. Time will tell... Overall, this season was not as strong. Odd pacing and frequently strange interactions and character choices. Still... very excited we have it cant wait for more.
What’s with the Craig hate? I don’t have a dog in his fight, never seen anything he’s done to my knowledge but thought he was well regarded after Chernobyl… I tried watching it but couldn’t make it through the first episode at the time.
So maybe they all share some of the blame but he's the outlier so he's an easy target, I just assume any changes I don't agree with are his idea
Don’t know if it’s just this show, but he’s known to write basically by himself instead of building a whole writer’s room. And he’s not great with dialogue.
I feel a little more positive about this season. I think Bella improved, Merced is a great addition, Wright is forever goated, the flashback episode was one of the best of the series. But I also agree that this is a big victim of the new way of doing things with smaller episode counts and way longer breaks. Like, it felt like this was just gaining momentum by the end and now it’s on break for a while and I hate to say it, but some of these actors aren’t getting younger. Plus, it’s gonna be tough to maintain any kind of hype. Even with the problems I have with it, I think the fan base has affected trying to enjoy this. Like, they are just so clearly unhappy with anything and everything. But they can’t just not like something, they have to be sure you don’t like it either. They do not deserve a moment of entertainment or joy and should lose their internet access.
I don't wanna pile on but while I enjoyed this season a lot, I definitely agree that a restructuring (or expansion to more episodes) of it would have made the story beats a lot more effective. At the very least I REALLY wish they filmed S2 and S3 back to back like Squid Game and released them relatively close to each other, they're placing a lot of trust in casual/non-gamer watchers to stay with them, especially with how likely controversial next season is going to be Ultimately I still love the show and the fact that it exists, and I do really like a lot of the choices it makes. Certainly not as much as S1, but I still love watching the cast (and the new additions are great) and the incredible production design that literally looks like the game brought to life
Personally, I'm stoked for the Abby focus next season and am eager to see more of Dever's performance. I think it's gonna be great.
