I haven’t played the first game since release, but I thought all the stuff in the quarantine zone was kind of boring and generic. Like if I wasn’t familiar with the game and where it goes I might have dipped out. but the outbreak stuff and the end fucking ruled. I’m excited for the rest of the season
It seems like there may be some episodes centered around new characters in QZs (based on the trailers) but this should be one of the last times we see the protagonists in one. The majority of the story takes place outside of them. Don’t think this is a spoiler but I can cover it if anyone thinks I should.
I agree but it will be interesting to see how non-gamers perceive it. I've already seen people complaining it ripped off a quiet place with the in truck driving (unaware that at the time, people though a quiet place was ripping of TLOU game - sigh) and it definitely didn't do too much in the first episode to set it apart from similar genre shows. It was well made, but in all honesty, if I didn't know the story, I wouldn't be listing originality as a strong point after 1 episode. However, I haven't seen much criticism overall, and I really believe it'll get better from here. If people got emotional at episode 1, it's going to be nuts to see the reaction to Ellie's backstory with Riley and it's been teased that episode 3, which I am going to assume will be the Bill storyline, will be a roller coaster that enriches that part of the game and then some. Lots to look forward to and a super solid start. The last couple of episodes will be overlap with the start of the Mando season 3 so Pedro is going to be everywhere.
Everyone I know that hasn't played the games that has watched it loved it so far. Couldn't have asked for a better premiere. Going to be anticipating this every week
I know this makes me cool and unique, but as much as I love both games, I really don’t care how much this mirrors the game. If I want the exact storylines and dialogue of the game, I’ll play the game. The easter eggs are fun though.
Being another addition to the zombie genre, I do hope we get some original things in this story, compared to what we've seen before. I never played the game, so I don't really know what to expect, but I hope that we get some cool new things that are new to the zombie genre. I actually kind of wished the outbreak part of the story was longer, as I was pretty curious to see how all that eventually played out. Regardless, the production value of this looks pretty high, so we should be in for a pretty exciting series.
The central story of the games is strong enough to adapt which helps, but the really interesting things will be where it deviates, expands, or subverts what players of the game already know (while creating compelling television for people with zero context) The talk show opening immediately reminded me of Watchmen (2019) which I know Mazin is of course a big fan of. I had a feeling this could be something special with that intro
Yeah him being 56 is pretty shocking to me. But if I've read it right, the original game takes place in 2013 so maybe in the game he's only 46? Feels like if they decided to do the 20 year time jump they could have at least aged him down a few years in the start, like have it be his 31st birthday or something haha. 51 seems so much younger than 56 Edit-NVm I read it wrong, there's a 20 year time jump in the game too but it comes from 2013 instead of 2003. Man it's kind of depressing to think of a world where 9/11 happens and then the last two years of life people have are the Bush admin immediately after 9/11. A terrible time!
The composer of this show, Gustavo Santaolalla, is great; famous for his acoustic guitar playing, this first album of his is really nice
It's a shame AMC isn't HBO because this is making me crave a series adaptation of Telltale's Walking Dead. Speaking of which, I still need to finish the 4th season.

I'm really liking how they're changing things up for those who have played the game. Like the tease of the truck hitting them before the plane explosion.
