Tell HBO to give me another episode to watch or New Rockstars to put up their breakdown already. I'm a victim of lack of content
in the game Abby is one of the coolest protagonists ever to me. I like just watching her wreck people's shit lol obviously she's not gonna be that character in this series but it's still gonna hit. show Ellie is a realistic foil for her
brushing up on the Game Lore and yeah gotta say, I think the game version with "guess" and leaving you in the dark is a lot more powerful. having Abby do the full monologue about it (even if Dever fucking killed that shit) kinda lessens the impact. it reeks of "we don't trust all these viewers to stick with us for a season for this payoff" which is unfortunately probably fair lol either way still extremely into this show/ready for next week
I worked at Game Stop for years back in the day. Alot of customers referred to IGNs ratings when buying games. So maybe not 'credible' but at least they could sway peoples opinions.
Ok I have more thoughts now that I’ve sat with the ep: The battle was ultimately unnecessary but it definitely feels like a producer or executive note that they acted on. Overall it was well done and I loved the barrel launchers, flamethrowers, and the DOGS! The dogs were a cool touch. Anyone who’s played pt 2 know how critical a dog enemy was so it was cool they implemented them this way. Not sure if we’ll get the WLF dogs attacking anyone this season. I’ve seen people criticizing the fact Abby had a monologue. Honestly I didn’t notice it and I recall in the game Abby was more direct about it but didn’t take me out. Also Dever did a great job. Definitely weird Tommy got cornered considering he was leading this defense and surely would’ve known where a dead end was? I’ve seen complaints about the CGI infected this ep but I thought they did a really good job. This series does a good job of mixing practical and cg. The bloater I thought worked, but maybe not as intimidating as s1 considering it ripped a dudes face off. really excited to see the fallout next ep and where they go from here. I think the battle will maybe make more sense in this context. I do agree now it seems they purposely chose to show us Abby’s motivations early because perhaps the showrunners didn’t trust some of the audience to understand and I now prefer if they didn’t. However I think the little changes they made like having Jesse paired up with Elle and Tommy not with Joel are actually more interesting.
Game spoilers mixed with thoughts: I really, really wish they could have played out the narrative the same way as the game, but that would have almost certainly meant ending this season at the theater, and then starting season 3 with Abby’s motivations…and then maybe not even reaching the theater until episode 4-5 of that season. I do understand that it would have been a HUGE ask of the audience to wait that long. I think realistically, people may not have wanted to stick with it, but who knows! I still suspect it may play out similarly and that we end S2 on a major cliffhanger. I just hope that they are able to make Abby’s story as impactful as it was in the game…but we are definitely looking at a few years before we find out. Oh and with the battle at Jackson, I wonder if now this will give them more rationale for Tommy to stay home and pick up the pieces at the town, or if we’ll start episode 3 with him already having a few days head start like in the game. Either way, I trust Mazin and Druckman to do it justice.
Lol this huge awesome battle scene that was cool as hell was unnecessary is such a funny film snob type opinion.
Tbf, TLOU2 came out 5 years ago and people still aren't really supposed to spoil the game in here (not that it bothers me one way or another)
he was referring to Ted Lasso, which I was joking about having spoiled, but I truly don't care bc I already knew Nate turned bad
