I feel like Spaeny looks just as young as Bella tbh

I know it's kinda the point, but Ellie and Dina were pissing me off during the patrol. Tommy/Joel were 100% right to put her on fence duty

100%. I get that Ellie is immune, but if she cares about Dina so much, maybe she shouldn't be selfishly putting her in unnecessary harms way when they have a whole community of people willing to help?

Plus going off book like that potentially puts her whole squad at risk. There wound up only being a couple infected (who still managed to almost kill the one person who's the safest out of everyone), but what if there was a horde in there? Just a boneheaded and self-serving move from Ellie through and through

I trust neil and craig’s decision to go with Bella.

I think that's my biggest issue... The decision making just feels very childish and immature. It's hard for me to believe that this is an older character than in season one who has matured since then. Ellie was good in season 1, but I need more to feel her growth over the years

Yeah I'm assuming it's meant to be an attempt at lashing out/getting back at Joel (since he's the one telling everyone to protect/coddle her), but it does come across as really childish. I don't mind it so much in that I feel like it's setting the stage for one of the main themes of the second game in disregarding/actively endangering the people around you for self-serving desires, but I think they could've found a neater way to show that

now, maybe. she’s five years older though. i don’t think they looked the same age in 2021 when filming for season 1 started

I don't look at it at childish and immature, I think it's more cocky and arrogant. I think she knows she's immune so acts accordingly.

I agree, and to add to that, they know the skills they’ve gathered over the past few years, and so they think they can act like patrol is a game.

Agreed, plus she is like 19, not 29, she thinks she's more mature and she acts like it, but people that age have a tendency to think they're invincible and that they know best. Mix that with her immunity and you have a recipe for recklessness.

Yeah I wouldn't judge yet. Almost every review I saw said Bella really stands out once the season gets going.

I don’t know anything about the game besides the broad strokes so I can’t say Bella isn’t a good Ellie because I don’t know what exactly that would be. But I will say I’m completely sold on Bella’s portrayal of someone that age in that situation in the world of the show.

There are definitely different choices being made when creating the show.

I saw s1 before playing the games, so I didn’t have any issues with Bella as I had no frame of reference for the character. Having played the games now, I can point out some distinctions between each version of the character. Since I view the game as canon and the show basically adding context or detail, I don’t mind those differences.

Bella is great. The games are great. The show is great. The internet is gonna internet.

You could say the same thing about casting Pedro Pascal as Joel. It was kind of an interesting choice based on Pedro's ethnicity, but it was such a good casting decision. There are times in my mind when I hear Troy Baker's voice as Joel from the game and wish he was just cast in the show, but then I realize it would be kind of dumb if those kinds of things were exactly the same from game to show (if that makes sense).

Never got to post my thoughts on the premiere but I thought it was fantastic, really opened up the themes of the season and re-established what the status quo is now after the time jump really effectively. The stalker scene was amazingly well-done and Dina is perfect

I'm not nearly as familiar with the fine details of the second game as I am with the first (you guys might remember me literally writing game/show comparison recaps after every episode last season, which I definitely won't be able to effectively do this time lol) so I'm really excited to see where this goes along with my memory of the game

Just watched the season premiere. I've always thought Bella was excellent casting and am excited to see them back as Ellie. Isabela Merced is a fantastic addition and I can't wait for more of her and Dever

The pace of the episode was fine with me; I'm down with table setting to kick things off. Joel's therapy session was the highlight for me, followed by the New Year's party. This show is so good at interpersonal tension

Catherine O’Hara is a wonderful addition to the cast too. The little flinch she does when he stands up in the therapy session communicated so much about what she thinks of him, like she was genuinely afraid for a second

I don't think I've seen Catherine O'Hara in a serious role, come to think of it. She's nailing it.
