Reddit started showing me posts from thelastofus2 subreddit and it's a fucking cesspool of people bitching about her looks. It's really gross. And when anyone is called out on that shit, everyone acts like that never happens in that sub and that people just mean she doesn't look like the character
Enjoyed the episode. The pacing of the story feels quick, which is really interesting. Sort of feels like THAT moment is coming up alarmingly quick and I don’t know how to feel about that. I played the game so long ago that I’ve forgotten large parts of it, particularly the early moments, so I have no issue with them reconstructing it. They’ve generally nailed it when doing that in the past so I have a lot of faith in them. Really excited to see how this season plays out.
I think Bella did a better job this episode than most of Season 1 when it came to acting as Ellie. Their angsty demeanor works with how Ellie is in LOU2. I’m just not the biggest fan of the character and how she treats Joel, so my annoyance to her in this episode is well played by Bella.
I think the plot will be in high gear by episode 3 at the latest, if not episode 2. I don't think the structure of the show is going to differ much in regards to that.
Having not played the game but seen the show, it’s wild to think about a dance scene in a game. Like I just picture a section where you’re busting out the DDR pad
It’s just story context. They actually only talked about the scene at the beginning and it’s shown later. There are a lot of flashbacks after big game moments to kind of settle you down almost. Makes sense because the time jump is present there as well so they fill in gaps here and there. They did a lot of heavy motion capture based cutscenes for the game.
No I mean I picked up what it was. I’m just picturing like trying to explain it to someone that has no idea of anything about the game
I was stressing so much. As a very good rule follower, even when I was a 19 year old girl, dina and Ellie were stressing me tf out. And even the others being like "uhh okay go ahead" like you can't be all pressed they don't follow rules but then do nothing when they don't follow the rules. Basically I was shouting "follow the rules. We're a society! They're to protect everyone!" Like the square I am the entire episode
Like honestly Ellie deserved fence duty! You endanger everyone's lives it's a big deal. And low-key frustrating since Ellie has had those close to her die and she's still not at all careful. I'm presuming maybe that'll come back around to get them later but I didn't play the game so IDK And blah blah I know teens don't understand consequences much and have poor impulse control. I don't hate her character. It is just stressful lol
I absolutely don’t know how I feel about how they introduced Abby in comparison to the games. Game spoiler: you are left with a true “wtf” moment when IT happens. You do not know why in the slightest. You are left floored, angry, gutted, confused, ect……. Now in the show you know what she is setting out to do from the start. (Apparently). So now when IT happens you’re going to be like “whelp I guess she wasn’t kidding” I’m guessing that is to cater toward the TV audience. The game still exists. So I’m ready for whatever they decide to do.
my thought is with not casting a physically imposing person to portray abby they wanted to a) give Dever a scene to let them cook and b) make them imposing even if not physically so
Neil and Craig have pretty much said the same but they just can’t make a show the same way that it’s split up in the game. When the first part ends you can just keep going while you’re playing, a TV audience is going to have to wait at least a year and they would probably lose so many viewers if they kept it exactly the same.
(major game spoilers) yeah idk how plausible it would be for them to end the second season with the cliffhanger of Abby in the theater and then have the majority of the third season be from her perspective before returning to said cliffhanger. and anyway i think the promo material already hinted at Wolf/Scar conflict. so if they're basically splitting Seattle in half--from both perspectives--i'm just not sure where that cutoff would be. it's wild that the majority of the game takes place within the span of three days
there is some material involving Ellie’s POV with the scars and wolves. I don’t think we can say what they’re covering this season vs next yet. [/spoilers]
It's astounding to me how many people don't understand how an adaptation works, or why shows are made the way they are (viewership targets, audience engagement, etc.) The Instagram comments on the Last Of Us/Max/HBO accounts are fucking insane. Not only awful to Bella Ramsey, but just the differences between game/show in general. Not you guys, you guys are great, but fuck me people are stupid.
