Okay, so the full quotes from Mazin in the article seem to imply that season 2, 3, and 4 will all be reserved for the story of Part II. He says that they want to take more time to tell the story and make every episode feel like a blockbuster. The first natural breakpoint felt like it came after episode 7. So essentially this gives Naughty Dog 3 seasons (potentially 6-ish years) to get Part III released.
Easy. 2nd season is first half of the game, and 3rd season is last part of the game since it IS larger due to the final act. (This is my copium)
I think it makes sense it could stretch into 3 seasons. Full part 2 spoilers below. Season 2: Ellie & Joel in Jackson; introducing Dena and other characters Ellie meets there; intro to the WLF and Abby, who is weaved throughout the season but we don't really know what the deal with her. Opposite of the approach with the game which is to make us sympathize with her and gut punch is with a penultimate episode reveal that her goal is to kill Joel. Season ends on a cliff hanger with Joel's murder. Season 3: almost entirely in Seattle. Ellie vs. Abby. Lev & Yara introduced with a full episode dedicated to their time on the island and escape with Abby. I mean there's definitely enough Seattle content to make a full season. Almost no Joel. Season 4: Ellie in California with flashbacks to the farm and a couple big ones with Joel (the museum specifically will be saved for this season). Some more fleshing out of what Abby is up to in California. If part 3 is coming, then they'll lay groundwork here.
See, I would agree with you if it weren’t for some set photos that have popped up showing Ellie and Dina on horseback in the city.
Ah well... perhaps not then... but we also don't know they could be filming parts for season 3 already or in a different city than we're expecting.
I have a really hard time imagining that seven episodes could feel paced well without there being a decently substantial amount of Seattle time. I don’t totally disagree that Ellie leaving for Seattle feels like one of the natural break points in the story, but we could get there in 2-3 hours of tv time easily imo. Put my money on the season ending with Dina’s pregnancy reveal/Jesse showing up That said, I’m cautiously optimistic about the one game being 3 seasons of tv, especially with this season only being 7 episodes - it’s long af and there are so many things that could be whole episodes. If it were up to me it should be two 10-12 episode seasons, but I can at least roughly see mapping it as 3 seasons as not completely stupid.
Truly. With the amount of story in Part II, along with episodes filling in certain characters’ backstories, I think this could easily fill 24 or so episodes with no filler. Which can’t be said for The Walking Dead.
Get back to me in 2029 when the final season of TLOU2 finally airs and then we'll discuss if it was dragged out or not.
sounds like they got to southern california and realized holy fuck theres still like 3 hours left in this game
I could also see, in the year 2024, not being excited about pulling a Game of Thrones-ish rug pull on audiences. I feel like all entertainment companies, even ones with prestige, are acting a real fool right now and shying away from anything that is not safe.
Would it be safe to assume they’re not only taking their time because of certain reasons but because they’re hoping the 3rd game will be out by then to continue the story? FYI I have not played the 2nd game yet but I know “the thing” thanks to someone on this site. So no other spoilers for me, please
I wish they could have given the first game two seasons if they’re willing to stretch the second one out for three. I loved it a ton but it would have been even better if it wasn’t so fast paced
Yeah agreed. There’s some cool stuff they could’ve explored more if they’re really gonna stretch pt2 to possibly three seasons
i've only played the first one but idk how they could've stretched that into another season? maybe another episode or two would've been okay, but tbh i feel like the season did what it needed to
I could see them splitting each episode we got into a couple, to give a little more breathing room and downtime with characters. And they’d be able to include a little more of the gameplay portions, rather than mostly only adapting the cutscenes. That being said I think it was great as is.
