This really clicked with me over the past day or so. Probably nearing my 10th listen and I think it took about that long for Battle Born to sink in for me, which I now love. Their albums have always been growers for me.
I've listened three times and I still just think it's okay, but something keeps drawing me back to it
I honestly hated it on first listen. I am so sad. The Killers are one of my favorites and they have been 4 for 4 so far for me so I was really disappointed. I am waiting until I forget what it sounds like so that I can dive in again with fresh ears. I would love to love this record but I just didn’t.
Finallllly listening to this. I'm on Out Of My Mind. It's fun and there's some great stuff here. Rut is the standout so far, easily. Wonderful Wondeful I enjoy a lot more as part of an album than as a single. I'll have to listen to it a few more times to let it sink in, but I think I'll end up really liking it.
going through The Killers catalog so heres some random thoughts Hot Fuss is my favorite. I actually do like the back half even though yeah the front half is ridiculously better. Sams Town and Day & Age are both neck and neck for me. Love the americana/springsteen worship of ST but I also love the more electronic, spacier grooves of D&A. say what you want about this band, they havent really made the same album twice. Battle Born is my 2nd favorite I think? idk its quite good and has some great melodies. This ones growing on me and it feels like another good solid addition to the Killers bucket of albums. the back half is my favorite this band has a major issue of relegating great songs to bonus tracks. Finally got around to tracking them all down, Sawdust included, and theres some really really great material. even the bonus track to this album "Money On Straight" is better than like 2 of the songs on the album.
This is a real disappointment. By far their worst album and that includes both of the excellent Flowers solo albums too. I like Rut and Run For Cover, the rest of it is just ehhhh to me.
Rut to Tyson vs. Douglas is a hell of a stretch, but then everything else is quite generic and lackluster.
Album is great, although, I wish a few songs from The Desired Effect would've been saved for this album. That album has some of Brandon's best songs.
Ah yeah probably should have mentioned I ordered the Deluxe (2LP). Unless that one is also sitting around in stores? Hope not!
Really surprised at how much I've been returning to this compared to other rock records (Foo Fighters, for example) so far.
I feel the opposite. There's been so much the last couple months, and both of these (Foo and Killers) got a little lost in the shuffle for me, even though I really enjoyed them both. Need to return to them both. (Foo Fighters really got lost for me because it came out Riot Fest weekend so I wasn't paying attention at all).
