I think he also wanted to build off of Pressure Machine for his solo album, which I'm 100% on board with

I don’t think we talked about this song enough but I’m listening to Pressure Machine on vinyl and it’s hittttting.

Damn, can't believe it'll have been three years since this album released come August.

I actually think it will actually be 4 years! Then again I feel like I've lost all concept of time. I'm sure there were murmurings about another album following PM the year after but I'm assuming that idea just got scrapped

  7. Yep it was scrapped as they ultimately didn't want to fully commit to that poppier/synthier direction, and wanted The Killers to build on Pressure Machine's style instead. From that time, the songs they kept were supposed to be on an EP, but they were only released as singles or as part of the latest compilation album. There were tons of change of plans for them, it was hard to keep up at some point lol

Yeah, it will likely end up being five years between albums (again), which is kind of nuts considering how present they’ve felt the past several years.

I don't understand what they are doing right now. "Bright Lights" was such a banger and got me so hyped, and then...no follow through. Feel like they're in a U2-esque "Let's overthink everything" mode right now, which is a bummer, since it felt like they started the decade really flying by the seat of their pants in fun, interesting ways.

I'm still very mad Quiet Town isn't as well known or played as their other singles from their career. Such a good fucking song

I believe there is a Brandon solo album in the can, but they wanted to hold off on releasing in 2024 for the Hot Fuss anniversary shows.

I’ve also seen some indications that the band themselves are working on new material, but again, only so much time to fit everything. I agree with you, though.

It just feels like there's no strategy, which is often how I feel about artists who just haphazardly release singles with limited push and no album build. The second greatest hits album is also still a bizarre choice to me, though I'd imagine that was a label thing.

  13. I think they simply thought they had found a direction, then got unsure/lost somewhere in the middle of the process and weren't so sure where to take The Killers creatively anymore. May be why Brandon shifted his focus on his upcoming solo album and the band went on an anniversary tour before entering their next era. That's the impression I remember getting from that one interview in late 2023.

  14. Relatable!

My band has an album's worth of demos, and while we like the songs, they feel hodgepodge and not of the same whole, so we're still debating on what we want to do with them and what the next release should sound and feel like.

as bummed as I am about them scrapping a killers album where I enjoyed the little tastes that we did get, it's hard not to be fired up about another brandon solo album given how incredible the desired effect is

Idk, I felt like they were on such a creative heater at the beginning of the decade and really would have liked for them to keep rolling on that. Felt like there was more to explore.

I too am confused by some Killers things. Like, to me, the Brandon solo albums (which I adore) sound more like Killers albums than Pressure Machine does......and then after that, he talked in interviews about maybe not wanting to do "Killers style music" (I'm paraphrasing).....I'm not sure why they don't just do his "Killers type songs" under that banner and scratch the itch for the other stuff under his own name. The stuff I read about what they wanted to do didn't seem to make sense - it almost seemed like they were going to do the opposite.

The Desired Effect could ABSOLUTELY be a Killers album

I’m cool if they take their time and only release material when they have consensus and feel good about it. Means we’re less likely to get duds like BB & WW.

    @FurtherFromSky Moderator

Yeah, fuck that. I’d so much rather have those albums than not have them. Battle Born is great. WW is their worst, easily, and still has 3-4 songs that absolutely enrich their discography. That album is worth is just for “Some Kind of Love,” imo, the most vulnerable song in their catalog.

My view is that bands should be less precious about this kind of thing. Make music and release it. In the long run, minor albums and “duds” are often just as fun to revisit and argue about as the masterpieces. Don’t be like U2 and let your output slow to a trickle because you’re so uncertain of what to do when your peak has come and gone.

I'm torn on this, because I do wish bands put out material with more frequency, but I also would want them to put out what they're happy with, because they have to please themselves first.

There are plenty of bands for me not to be starving for one to put something out, especially if they're just doing it to go through the motions. Better music happens when there's an excitement for it.

That said, I do also agree that it's best not to overthink things and get too far into a twist to chase that "perfect album". Like Weezer is super prolific because they believe even within the band that if they don't like something, next time will be different, so it's better to roll with it.

Also BB is weak. Even Flowers has said so himself.
