It's been interesting reading this thread and the killers sub reddit the past few days. I would consider myself a pretty big killers fan (including Brandon's solo stuff) but Imploding the Mirage and Pressure Machine didn't do much for me when they came out. Apparently I need to revisit them lol. People seem to not like Wonderful Wonderful? I really liked most of it.
I would just do the Pressure Machine type stuff under the solo banner and do Killers albums less frequently that sound like the Killers.
Just listened to Imploding the Mirage all the way through for the first time in years. Genuine question: Do people (generally speaking) really like this more than Battle Born? In my opinion, Battle Born is much better but that's also my favorite Killers album so I suppose that's not saying much.
It took me a while to come around on Battleborn, and though I love it now, I still prefer Imploding the Mirage.
I love them both, but for me Battle Born is The Killers playing exactly the kind of music I love to hear from them, and it really feels like them at the top of their game and firing on all possible cylinders. It has more incredible songs on it than ITM as well.
Some days I think the song Battle Born itself is the best thing they've ever done, but yeah Flesh and Bone, the Way it Was, Be Still, Here With Me, Runaways, Miss Atomic Bomb are all tip top tier.
I think Battle Born has higher highs than Imploding the Mirage but it also has lower lows. As a whole album, I prefer Imploding the Mirage. Pressure Machine blows away both of them in my opinion though
Disagree on lower lows however I'm listening to Pressure Machine all the way through for the first time right now and yeah this shit rules
I love Pressure Machine, and although this might be a deeply unpopular opinion around here, make sure you check out the Deluxe Edition because a few of the best versions of the songs are on there.
I didn't realize this instrumental was a version of "Flesh and Bone" for the longest time. Fingers crossed this version shows up on Sawdust II...
The intro is super soft but the rest of it actually sounds like the song to me, just without BRandon singing? Well and different drums
Mirage and Battle Born are about on par for me but Caution and Soul's Warning probably alone bump it over. Both great albums
Yeah, I feel like they have parts in common but they're not the same...? I don't know, I didn't go to Berklee.
Runaways + Miss Atomic Bomb >>>> Caution + My Own Soul's Warning IMO It's a crime that Runaways and Miss Atomic Bomb didn't do better than they did on radio. Shoulda been huge hits. But I think they just dropped the album at the wrong time I really love the way that last verse of Runaways hits...at night i come home after they go to sleep, like a stumbling ghost I haunt these halls. There's a picture of us on our wedding day, I recognize the girl, but I can't settle in these walls. Just great storytelling and emotion.
