I’ve found myself opening my music app and wondering what I will listen to and almost every time I’ve ended up going to Pressure Machine. A few other things here and there but I’ll immediately think of a line, melody or something that will make me want to listen to it - and not just a song or two, always the entire album. Love it.
This is definitely an album I need to be in the mood for but there's nothing wrong with that, they have plenty of music that matches different moods, it's cool that this one is only for a specific one (for me) I do think the version with the audio recordings is definitely better, it really engrosses me in the atmosphere/narrative
bones and for reasons unknown are very good songs the rest of the album can’t keep up with i still like it probably most of their stuff
I have not re-listened to this album in full in a few weeks because the last time I listened to it was after a small-town funeral and it kinda fucked me up haha
Nothing on this album stood out to me immediately except West Hills, but I've continued to come back to it mostly due to reading all the praise in this thread. Glad I did because it's all starting to click over the last couple days. Love when that happens!
“Sleepwalker” becoming a top 3 track on it for me. But then I think about what songs it knocks down and I revise my list again.
Spinning this on vinyl, the whole thing is great obviously, but side B is legitimately one of the best sides of a record I can remember in a long time.
let's play the game. Desperate Things Pressure Machine In The Car Outside In Another Life --- Sleepwalker Quiet Town The Getting By --- Terrible Thing Runaway Horses West Hills Cody
Desperate Things Sleepwalker Quiet Town In the Car Outside In Another Life Pressure Machine The Getting By Cody West Hills Terrible Thing Runaway Horses Probably. I honestly love every song except for "Runaway Horses" which feels a bit like it's searching for a better melody it never finds. I get why "Cody" would be viewed as the weak point, but it's so R.E.M. in a way I really love.
West Hills / Pressure Machine / Desperate Things In The Car Outside / In Another Life / Sleepwalker /Quiet Town / The Getting By / Cody --- Runaway Horses --- Terrible Thing I couldn't really rank these songs. I absolutely love every single one of them with the exception of "Runaway Horses" and "Terrible Thing".
I’m a big advocate for spending more than a week with new albums and moving on and this is why! Good stuff
Great interview. Brandon talks a little bit about the reviews that wanted him to editorialize and resolve the issues presented in the songs.
Only about 10 minutes but already a lot of great gems in this interview. Would love to hear the "stadium-friendly" version of "The Getting By" that Ronnie talked about.
