I wasn't a big enough fan to know what the critics were saying and such, but it's crazy for me to hear that Sam's Town was panned by critics, because I remember When You Were Young being HUGE and then the other singles from it were also big hits that were all over the radio. Wild that it would be called a dud or a disappointing follow up or whatever. The argument about the interviews is now making me overthink whether I want to buy the regular or abridged on iTunes lol. I think I'd want to hear the interviews at least once but prob after that just want the songs. Guess I could always youtube em?
"We've had that treadmill now for months I think she's only used it once. If I shut my mouth and keep the peace she'll cook my eggs in bacon grease" something about that verse really hits it for me
Quiet Town In The Car Outside In Another Life These are my top 3 after pretty much a week. I’m sure it’ll continuously change.
I really didn't realize that Sam's Town got the Pinkerton treatment but that's really interesting. Just like with the latter album I can't believe it was ever panned I think my ranking as of right now is Hot Fuss Sam's Town Imploding the Mirage Pressure Machine Day & Age Battle Born Wonderful Wonderful But I still need to listen to the new one some more
Having highly anticipated Sam's Town upon release, I think the "it got panned" narrative is probably overstated now. If you look at Metacritic, it actually got a fair number of positive notices, especially from the British press. It got absolutely obliterated by a few major American publications (Rolling Stone and NY Times, particularly), and I think those reviews probably ended up shaping the narrative. But it definitely wasn't getting horrible reviews cross the board.
The Killers were (idk if they still are?) so big in the UK. I remember in like 2009 I was over there and both "Spaceman" and "Human" were like back to back on the pop radio stations, repeatedly
I just remember that both Sam's Town and The Information by Beck came out on my 21st birthday - and I couldn't have been more ecstatic. I ignored the - let's call them LUKEWARM - reviews for both, drove my happy ass to Best Buy to buy them both on CD, and thoroughly enjoyed both of them. Still do to this day.
I bought Sam’s Town the day it came out and The Information a month or so later. I don’t listen to the Beck album a whole lot anymore, but I remember getting really into it for awhile.
1. Imploding the Mirage Pressure Machine Sams Town Desired Effect Battle Born Day & Age Flamingo Sawdust Wonderful Wonderful Hot Fuss hot fuss completely loses me after the first 5 or 6 and honestly I don’t care if I ever hear mr. Brightside or somebody told me again.
Hot Fuss Sams Town/Desired Effect Imploding the Mirage Day & Age Battle Born Flamingo Sawdust Wonderful Wonderful PM will slot comfortably above ITM but not sure if it can crack the top 3. Nostalgia is strong and I think if I was to look at it without bias of time, TDE is the strongest front to back collection of songs Brandon has ever made. No weaknesses at all in that record.
1 . My "playlist" that I made from several songs on the album Sam's Town plus several songs that were recorded during those recording sessions that were not put on the album 2. Hot Fuss 3. My Day & Age "playlist" / Imploding The Mirage / The Desired Effect 4. Flamingo "playlist" / Battle Born 5. Wonderful Wonderful I can't rank Pressure Machine yet because it's just too new but it is a phenomenal album and I see it ending up really close to the top.
Yeah, the way it matches Brandon’s pitch from the chorus is one of my favorite moments on the record.
they're doing a listening party with Brandon at 6p ET today and he's going to show up in the chat to answer questions. check it out here, there's already plenty of folks in the chat. Tunecast
A couple of listens so far and right now the first two tracks have grabbed me good. Need more time with the rest I think
She’s on the record for sure, yea! Sounds like her and I haven’t seen other fiddlers listed as featured.
