Update: I relistened to Day & Age and I think I was too harsh on it in the past. Still probably my least favorite of their records, and there are a couple of songs I wasn't super into, but overall I liked it when returning to it.
When Day & Age came out, I think the Sam's Town reassessment hadn't fully happened yet, so I remember there was some hype from major publications calling it a "return to form" (even though it really sounds nothing like Hot Fuss). It definitely took me awhile to appreciate that album, because it's so all-over-the-place, and some of the songs are a little half-baked. I like it a lot more in retrospect, which I think tends to be the case with oddities in an artist's catalog.
It’s definitely not the classic world-conquering third album, but maybe that’s because their first album already conquered the world.
I didn't pick up Day & Age til five years after. Which I regret as Dustland Fairytale turned out to be a top ten song for me. Not just Killers top ten
Definitely the best song on the album. I view it as basically the best song to summarize the band with.
Exciting. Probably wishful thinking for coming out tomorrow, as I imagine they expected the guessing to last longer/it would probably be out in Aus by now. What a match up though.
