Yeah, I don't really think the back half of Hot Fuss is weak at all, aside from having a lackluster closer... The album is definitely front-loaded with the singles, but the back half has a song for two that could've / should've been a single too, as others have pointed out. It's a remarkably stacked album. I don't really care much for Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll, but Under The Gun & The Ballad of Michael Valentine are my jams.
“Everything Will Be Alright” sticks around a bit too long. Otherwise, I don’t have any qualms with that album.
Yeah that's the only weakness to me. Can't believe people can think the second half is weak. Change Your Mind is probably a top ten Killers song for me
Yeah, I think On Top is great from the second half, could take or leave most of the rest of it (I guess Change Your Mind is nice and Strokes-ish, but I didn’t know about it for ages as a grubby Scotsman with the UK version of Hot Fuss. Everything Will Be Alright has a couple of nice bits (the solo, meandering second verse with some nice chord progressions) but overall feels like a chore to listen to. Chorus melody is horrendous to my ears, sounds like he’s trying to catch up with the rest of the music - and then to combine that with the weird vocal filter?
like several ppl in this thread i don’t think “andy you’re a star” totally works and imo they do the willfully ugly thing better on “uncle johnny” but i love the rest of hot fuss pretty evenly
That begs the question, how would you redo Hot Fuss? I think this feels like an album and doesn't really dip: Smile Like You Mean It Somebody Told Me Mr. Brightside On Top Change Your Mind Everything Will Be Alright Glamorous Indie Rock & Roll Leave The Bourbon On The Shelf Midnight Show Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine All These Things That I've Done And what's your favourite song from Pressure Machine right now?
it’s a weird trend that popped up on ap like 5-6 years ago and I’ve never understood it but if people wanna do it then whatever I just can’t imagine any rearrangements making hot fuss any better than it already is, and I don’t even think the album is that great to begin with (it’s very good don’t get me wrong)
Yeah I know, I don't normally try to do this, but Hot Fuss as it is drops off so hard in the second half for me, plus All These Things is such an obvious closer. It's also pretty fun to hear the "murder trilogy" in order.
I do have a burned copy of Hot Fuss somewhere that incorporates “Under the Gun” and “Indie Rock and Roll” into the tracklist of the original album. I recall it working quite well.
