Hot take: I'd call it the best front-to-back album he's made. His other projects may have higher highs but they suffer from real filler and forgettable music. The Desired Effect is chock full of good songs throughout.
You include the title track on The Desired Effect and I am comfortable with calling it his best album.
I didn't realize until just now that Taylor Goldsmith from Dawes cowrote that song! While I don't agree that it's the best cut on the record (I'd put it in the middle, personally... "Between Me And You" is my JAM), I'm definitely surprised he never threw it on streaming services as an official bonus track. I think he probably had it in mind as the closer but wrote "The Way It's Always Been" and picked the one he thought fit better.
Taylor and Griffin, right? And Taylor and Conor Oberst co-wrote "Never Get You Right." I'm just always bummed when I spin the vinyl and the title track isn't on there. I think it works really well as a kind of "epilogue" closer after "The Way It's Always Been."
Flamingo is my second favorite behind Sam’s Town. Desired Effect never clicked for me, I should go back and give it some more listens before the new album comes out.
Truly one of the best popular bands of the last 2 decades. Always happy when a Killers song comes up on shuffle. And an incredible live band and frontman to boot.
when I saw them at lolla and they opened with mr. bright side it was one of the happiest moments of my life
I wouldn't call it a single so much as a release track. "Caution" is definitely still the single... apparently it's their fastest #1 on radio ever?!
I listened to Battle Born the other day and this one has really aged well for me. I like it so much more than I originally did. I'm not so sure it's not my 2nd or 3rd favorite of theirs. Wonderful Wonderful is the only misstep in their catalog for me, and BF's 2 solo albums are both exceptional too. Hoping the new album is good.
I've honestly never listened much to Day & Age - I thought Human was a really stupid song and never bothered with the rest Am I the only one that loved The Man? Serious jam in my books
A Dustland Fairytale might just be my favorite song from them. I would recommend it. The Man took some growing but it’s a lot of fun now
