Was skeptical because I didn’t see it when it came out, just thought it was a silly premise, but I liked it a lot
Mank is boring but much better than Gone Girl. The Killer wasn't great but it was such a welcome return after a dark decade or so for Fincher.
Re gone girl: The feminist lying and setting her dbag husband up for murder and making up rape allegations is just too eye rolling and, not saying it’s the case for anyone here, but it’s probably a favorite for too many people for all the wrong reasons. Like fight club but more problematic imo.
With Fincher there is a lot of lows to choose from. Alien 3, depending on how much you want to fault him, Panic Room, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. The Social Network and Zodiac are on such a different level than the rest.
Gone Girl was one of the greatest movie-going experiences I ever had. 2014 opening night. Packed theater reacting like it was a Marvel movie, everyone discussing the movie after it ended. Thought all of the cast was great too.
Gone Girl is good, I can obviously understand differentiating opinions on any given movie in most circumstances, but I have no idea where you even begin to slate Gone Girl, maybe the faux-feminist dark dramadies that came after it were kind of annoying, but that's no fault of the film
Nick: Look, you're delusional. You're insane. Why would you even want this? Yes, I loved you. And then all we did was resent each other, and try to control each other. And cause each other pain. Amy: That's marriage. One of the most eye-rolling lines I have ever heard. It has all the social commentary of American Beauty and so many other films that try to critique suburban life.
