I played Breath of Fire I and II on GBA when they released on there and they were both just so incredible. But II is on a whole other level from I.
it's soooo good and it only keeps getting better, love how deep battle system is and how much it requires to actually think and use different gear/skills per enemy type instead of being content with a single "best" set. it does maybe get a little overwhelming since the game isn't great at explaining the various systems to you while you're playing and instead assume you're going to read the tons of text hidden in menus but once you get the hang of it it's incredible.
breath of fire 4 is my personal favorite but 2 is right behind it. i even like some of the ideas of dragon quarter even if i would have preferred a traditional BoF game. too bad it's one of capcom's abandoned franchises now, BoFVI mobile was the last nail in the coffin for it.
yeah, nowadays i always suggest someone look up a youtube or separate text guide to really understand the battle system because you'll be quickly outmatched without it.
Yeah the avatars were confusing me lol I had BoF1 on the GBA and it was pretty good. Actually did manage to finish it. The second one I owned until I let a friend borrow it in 7th grade and he "broke" it. How do you break a GBA cartridge?? Still bitter about it because I never finished it.
If you have an android it is so easy to download emulators and play it on there. Really doesnt ruin the experience either if you ask me.
Ok because I am bored and I feel like shaming myself, I am making a list of all the RPGs I never finished. Some of them I grew bored of, some of them I just stopped, some of them I gave up. All excuses. Titles in italics are ones that I gave up after dying in the final dungeon/final boss fight. Too demoralized to finish the job. Titles with *asterisks are ones I straight up didn't like and stopped playing. Everything else is mostly inexcusable. PS1 Final Fantasy VIII* Xenogears Lunar 2 Chrono Cross SaGa Frontier (two attempts)* SaGa Frontier 2* Final Fantasy Tactics (two attempts) Valkyrie Profile Threads of Fate Alundra Wild Arms* Wild Arms 2 Breath of Fire 3 Chocobo's Dungeon 2 Star Ocean 2 Azure Dreams SNES Link to the Past Chrono Trigger (3 attempts) Super Mario RPG (2 attempts) Secret of Mana (currently have a file I haven't touched in months) Earthbound (ditto on the open file) Breath of Fire 2 Tales of Phantasia Ogre Battle: March of the Black Queen GBA Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap Golden Sun 2 Pokemon Ruby* Yggdra Union* DS Final Fantasy III Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings Lunar: Dragon Song* Magical Starsign* Dragon Quest 4 Dragon Quest 5 N64 Ocarina of Time Majora's Mask Gamecube Wind Waker Paper Mario: Thousand- Year Door Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles Tales of Symphonia Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance Gladius Evolution: Worlds And a few others from systems I didn't feel like listing: Grandia 2 Dragon Quest 1&2 Legend of Heroes: Trails In The Sky Star Ocean: First Departure Wild Arms 3 Wow, what a depressing list. If you don't see a major one listed here, there's a chance I beat it. So there's some good. I have a lot to think about. What am I doing with my life?
I'm kind of indifferent. I thought the second and third game were a big disappointment after how incredible the first game was.
Yeah I was mostly talking about the first haha. I have so many good memories with it I’d like to replay it, but couldn’t care less about the other two
i didn't hate the third as much as i did the second but the first game is by far the best of the trilogy. i'd buy a remaster.
I remember seeing the intro of Chaos for the first time and just thinking, "This is the coolest shit ever."
The second is so bad, that game would need a remake to make it enjoyable I'd still buy a remastered trilogy though
Yeah if they did I’d definitely try to get through all three since I never actually finished the third and would love to cross it off the list. Knowing me I’d probably beat the first, start the second and then stop playing haha
are the Xenosaga/Xenoblade games all just various sequels in the Xenogears universe? Also in order to make myself feel better, here's a list of JRPGs I actually have finished: PS1 Final Fantasy VII (beat all the Weapons too) Final Fantasy IX (luckiest final boss fight ever) Suikoden Grandia Eternal Eyes SNES Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals GBA Final Fantasy I (4 times) Final Fantasy II Final Fantasy IV (twice) Final Fantasy V (twice) Final Fantasy VI Golden Sun Fire Emblem (twice) Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones (twice) Sword of Mana Tactics Ogre: Knight of Lodis Lunar Legend Breath of Fire (twice) Riviera: The Promised Land DS Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker Dragon Quest IX Valkyrie Profile: Covenant of the Plume (thrice) Radiant Historia N64 Paper Mario Ogre Battle: Person of Lordly Caliber (10+ times) Quest 64 (twice) Other: Tactics Ogre (twice, PSP port) LoZ: Oracle of Seasons (twice) LoZ: Link's Awakening (many times) Pokemon Red/Blue Still a very sad list.
Breath of Fire 4 arrived yesterday. I'm already as far as I was on the emulator version. I only ever got about 30 minutes past that point 6 years ago. Excited to finally play this game through.
Never played it! I've wanted to since I was 12 lol. I bought it 6 years ago but the disc would freeze every time and they didn't have another copy. I tried an emulator but it would give me the black screen. This time I'm gonna get through it, I swear.
