I’m still really loving Legend of Heroes TOCS. The writing in this game is leaps and bounds above most JRPGs. Especially of this nature. I wish the mini games were a little more complex. Would be fun to get packs of Blade and play for cards like you can in FF9.
So the people who made Legend of Heroes created a new franchise called Tokyo Xanadu and with their limited edition/collector's edition it actually came with a deck of Blade cards because that card game exists in that universe as well. However the quality of the cards are absolute horrible. They basically took the JPEG images for the small icons of the cards in the game and blew them up to fit onto these physical cards. The result is these distorted and blurry cards that look like a middle school student printed them for a homework assignment. I still have mine somewhere.
I wouldn't even know where to begin lol. Maybe some retro style pixel art stuff. I have a Star Trek one I got for free from work but I don't even watch the show
Seriously considering getting a AAA JRPG on the Switch instead of picking up Paper Mario. Thinking maybe DQ11 or Tales of Vesperia. I've heard nothing but good things about DQ11, quick somebody tell me some bad things about it
i bought Tales for 15 just in case you’re willing to wait for another sale. 40 or 50 might be the lowest price I’ve seen DQ. can’t wait for Paper Mario. all the stuff announced so far has been right up my alley
Yeah I shoulda grabbed it when it went on sale, damnit I'll probably still get Paper Mario but I'm craving some turn based goodness rn
DQ XI is an absolutely fantastic JRPG and the best version is exclusive to Switch. It added a ton of content and some really nifty quality of life improvements. This would be my order DQ XI -> Vesperia -> Paper Mario (which of course I haven't played) in terms of getting the best traditional JRPG experience. I think you'd enjoy any of those options though.
if you want turn-based goodness, get DQXI. I think it’s safe to say it’s the best turn-based RPG on the Switch. Also, the Tales games aren’t turn-based. And of course Paper Mario isn’t actually an RPG.
Haha I played the demo and I remember liking it but unfortunately it was right when I was finishing BotW and starting Fire Emblem 3H
Tales of Vesperia is a great game too. I actually just looked back at the latest tales games and I can’t figure out if why I didn’t play Berseria... very strange. Anyone play it?
Yeah, I played it. I liked it a lot, it's kind of a darker take on it all and that was refreshing to me.
