Not challenging anyone, but why the hate for Schreier? I don't know the guy personally (I'm assuming no one else here does either) but he seems like a perfectly reasonable dude on the Kotaku Splitscreen podcast. He's obviously a big fan of the JRPG genre and seems more well-qualified than most to review those games. I feel like his reviews are usually fair and his criticisms are justified. I can understand disagreeing with his opinions but is there something out there about him that I've missed that prompted the strong reaction?
Speaking personally, I don’t mind his review or most of his content. But he went overboard with the Fallout 4 content a few years back. He managed to leak nearly everything about the game. Script for the story and all.
I try not to get hung up on individual reviews. The backlash Sterling got over Zelda fucking killed me. The guy writes a review I agree with, and people call for his head.
I don't have any particular hate for Schreier and I've always tended to like him on Splitscreen/other stuff. Just seems like he's got a weird chip on his shoulder for the JRPGs he's reviewed recently. Then again, I am mostly going towards XC2 and this, but the former has been really highly regarded pretty much everywhere but in his review (not to say all review outlets are right or wrong, but I do think it's a pretty wonderful game.) It just seems like he isn't big on the genre, at least in a modern sense. To each their own, I guess I just saw a lot of people acting like the sky was falling in other corners of the web when the Kotaku review got posted and I'm just like...wait a second.
It's literally his attitude and how unprofessional he is. He was a well known leaker a while back, not just with Fallout 4, but before that he was notorious for being on forums under usernames leaking stuff and then people found out it was him. I'll try to find some links for you. He's also just one of those people that thinks he's top shit because he works for Kotaku and is "in the know" and that's just amateur hour. If he writes something good, cool. Good on him. But I have no respect for him.
That Kotaku review...dude is hyperbolic to an extreme. "Octopath Traveler is a beautiful game with one of the best soundtracks I’ve heard. The combat system rocks and will hopefully be used in more Square Enix games to come. There are plenty of good ideas in here. But the game is too grindy, too repetitive, too full of structural problems to be viewed as much more than another botched JRPG experiment." Last sentence is particularly harsh
We've been over this in this thread a few times, but Jason Schreier is a hack and a tool and he shouldn't be reviewing JRPGs because most of the time he just shits on them because they aren't what he wants regardless if they are good in their own right.
Well, I know I was all in on OT for day one, but after reviewing finances after Anime Expo and other stuff going on (not to mention an insurmountable backlog), I think I'm forcing myself to sit it out for at least a few weeks. Best case scenario someone doesn't like it and I can scoop it up next GameStop B2G1 sale. :P
Today = getting work done ASAP and then arriving home in time for the mail to play OT all day and into the night. My marriage will suffer but at least I'll be on an adventure!
Well, my wife is gonna be working all weekend...and I just realized that my GCU membership officially expires NEXT year (I thought it was gonezo). Now rethinking my decision not to buy (especially after I made a big stink on my gaming blog about the importance of buying a game like this day one.) I need moral support!! (in either direction, I s'pose lol)
Mine came early yesterday and I feel like I might not even get to it for another week or two cus every time I have some time to play something I'm probably gonna wanna keep going at Hollow Knight
Ended up taking a super late lunch and running to Best Buy to get my wife an anniversary gift...needless to say, I am about to start Octopathing all over the place...
Octopath has been so much fun so far. Got through Cyrus and the Merchants chapter 1s so far and just love everything about it.
I just cleared out my loft and found Unlimited Saga, Drakengard, Star Ocean: Until The End Of Time, Final Fantasy VII, X/X-2, XII, Phantasy Star and a few other games. My life is sorted.
Yeah I have very little complaints so far. I'm up to 4 characters and just loving it. Tressa is such a fun character.
When Tressa spots money while you are traveling does that mean you need to find it and pick it up or does her spotting it mean you picked it up
