Just came out of this. Beautiful, devastating film. The last hour or so, I was holding back tears and then the last scene just opened the floodgates. “We’ll be your brothers.”
This was pretty good. A very tragic portrayal of what happens when young men are wrapped up in someone else's ambition. The afterlife scene was a tad corny but still got to me. Holt McCallany was great. I also liked Maura Tierney in this, even in a limited role she gave the character a nice little arc by the end.
I don't follow wrestling, so for those who do - how was the Ric Flair actor? He kind of took me out of it, but for all I know it was a perfect performance.
The Ric Flair performance has been pretty much universally hated on Wrestling Twitter and Wrestling Reddit by people who like Flair, and liked kind of ironically by some fans who hate Flair.
i thought he was sub-community college theater level acting. truly terrible and took me briefly out of the movie in a pretty crucial part where every other casting decision was nailed
I saw some folks on wreddit said he was better in the locker room scene and I think I agree with that, much closer to what I imagine Flair to be without being a bad impression, which my god that promo scene was awful
A lot of wrestling people have really praised the Harley Race portrayal though. The actor looked so much like him.
I saw this about 4 weeks ago and was excited to see it but in retrospect I think the story would have been better off if it was a 6 or 8 episode miniseries. It was just tough to cram so many tragedies in a 2 hour movie. Definitely could have used more character development.
