There is a lot of scenes that could be in this movie that would make me very emotional, but I swear if include the part where Bruiser Brody is on the phone with Kev bawling after finding David's body in the Japanese hotel room I think I might lose it. The one character that is going to be in this where you could make a whole other incredibly sad ass movie about their story and would be just as good. I hope they do. Give me a whole Dark Side of the Ring Cinematic Universe.
Saw this last night. Thought it was very solid sports drama. The lighting, camerawork, acting - all solid. I really enjoyed how they sell the wrestling business, as well as the brothers bond. But I’ll say that when it gets to the really dark parts, you mostly feel bad for Kevin having to endure this because you don’t know the other brothers that well as characters. Still, very good. For the wrestling heads - Prepare to lose your mind at two things: 1) Whoever is playing Ric Flair - He’s so miscast that he takes you out of the movie. I really don’t know what they were thinking. 2) They play fast and loose with the timeline, when wrestlers won matches/belts and how they died. It’s the movies so you just have to chalk it up to dramatic license.
Loved this. Last third of this was SO bleak and it stuck the landing so well. Zac Efrin should definitely be in conversation for some awards
Saw the first negative review from critics I respect. They mainly just didn't like the script. I ,dunno they kind of lost me with the " it is like wrestling, in that the effort to be entertaining is there, but in the end it's very superficial " line.
typically agree with Christie on most reviews, but dang this is way off the mark; figured she’d love this
I liked this but wanted to like it a lot more. Efron kills it. Ric Flair just made me think of Baby Billy
Pretty good but something definitely felt lacking. Also, the staircase ghost and afterlife didn’t work for me and kind of took me out of it.
This was good. Not a new favorite, unfortunately. Some really great performances though. Some things just didn't work for me
Movie had me bawling my eyes out in the third act. saw this two weeks ago and it hasn’t left my thoughts since
I love that every non-wrestling fan who went into this blind then tweets about how sad this story is just getting a thousand replies from wrestling nerds telling them to watch Dark Side of the Ring so they can check out all the other really sad wrestling stories.
What wrecked me is the part after the funeral when she asked Kevin is he was going to come home and his response… fuck
thought this was really good, even though i’m dreaming of a longer cut that breathes more. anytime the film stopped to dwell in the brothers’ relationship or feelings it was incredible, like when their faces are superimposed over each other, or when the camera locks into efron lost in grief practicing bumps in the ring, or the college party sequence which was soooooo unexpectedly beautiful
i think the wrestler is still the best pro wrestling movie of all time but happy to have another really good one
This absolutely broke me. Especially going in knowing sort of the bare minimum of the story. Efron deserves some awards for this thing.
