that's not true I'll always stand up against Scorsese slander It's a meditative deconstruction on morality and facing the end of one's life and what you've committed your life to, while Goodfellas and the Wolf of Wall Street critique the excess of their subjects while immersing the audience in the appeal of their lifestyle, The Irishman strips the glamor away and is much more reflective and has a broader perspective while simultaneously staying close to Sheeran's POV. Paquin packs more power in thoughtful stares than many actors can convey in entire monologues, the trio of the broad Pacino, powerful Pesci, and observant De Niro strikes an incredible balance as power and morality shift between them. The text of the film is matter of fact, and the subtext creeps into you as you watch until the all-time classic final frames. It's a masterpiece!
This is what many of us does on a daily basis on this site, it just so happens that many of us disagree that one of Scorsese’s best movies, as well as being a contemporary American classic, is bad.
plus if you're really interested in why anyone thinks the movie is good you can pick a critic out of a hat and as long as it isn't Armond White or maybe 3-4 other people, they'll tell you why it's good Highlights from the New York Film Festival: Martin Scorsese’s Colossal, Mournful “The Irishman” Mobsters, Teamsters, history, guilt, and salvation: Martin Scorsese’s terrific The Irishman The Irishman movie review: Martin Scorsese is the king of gangster films and this masterpiece adds to his legacy - Entertainment News , Firstpost The Irishman movie review & film summary (2019) | Roger Ebert ‘The Irishman’ Review: The Mob’s Greatest Hits, in a Somber Key (Published 2019) ‘The Irishman’ Review: Scorsese Comes to the End of the Road The Best Movies of 2019
I am baffled about the Goodfellas take. Not only is it one of the best, it’s also incredibly entertaining and cruises
I still remember leaving the theater just completely crushed and questioning my own mortality. Classic movie.
The movie is a textbook example on how to properly pace a movie imo, everything flows and it never feels like it’s dragging things out.
Goodfellas is a masterpiece, one of the best paced and edited films of all time honestly I find Casino and The Departed both to be overlong and unevenly paced with some sections that are an absolute slog. doesn't mean both don't have fantastic moments, like Pesci's death scene in Casino
Maybe it's cheating, and I truly adore Scorsese, but... I watched The Last Waltz for like the 100th time on Thanksgiving and I don't think any Scorsese scene has ever haymakered me emotionally quite like that performance of "I Shall Be Released" after the year we've all been living through. I was overwhelmed.
The Departed was a great spot in what is Scorsese's lowest period as a filmmaker. His last three films have been incredible, but people forget that between Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street there is not much that stands against his masterpieces.
How coincidental that this is the top thread in the entertainment board and I just watched Goodfellas with my dad. A+ time. maybe my favorite movie
Shutter Island and Boxcar Bertha are tied for Scorsese's worst, but Boxcar Bertha has the excuse of Scorsese being very young and basically being a hired hand.
