I’m sorry but only seeing every post-2000 Scorsese is so funny. It’s like watching every post-‘80 Coppola film and being like “yeah I never understood the hype” lmao
Imagine the possibilities. Someone who started with Jaws 2. Someone who only saw Matrix Reloaded. Someone who started Twin Peaks with season two.
The Departed has some goofy stuff in it but I fell in love with it so deeply at 14 that I can put it on anytime anywhere and watch it until the end. I loved Gangs when I saw it (also at 14, I went through a bunch of his filmography right after seeing the Departed), but haven’t been able to get through a rewatch the last couple times I’ve tried. Some great stuff in it, but too much of it doesn’t engage me
My family pretty much never went to Blockbuster so the fact I even saw those surprises me on this side of it. but this is a pretty shitty way to mock someone who was legit asking from a place of curiosity but do you
I’m not mocking you at all. I think you yourself should recognize how funny it is. Watching Shutter Island and Silence but never watching Goodfellas is just very humorous. It’s like someone saying they’re a fan of Orson Welles but never got around to Citizen Kane. It’s a rare, odd situation
We might need to bump the general Scorsese discussion thread and give some more in depth suggestions there. I’m very curious to see how your opinion changes after seeing some of the greats. I definitely recommending working through a lot more of his work before getting to The Irishman since so much of that is a culmination of everything that came before.
departed is an adrenaline hit. it may be karaoke scorsese, which keeps it from being one of my favorites of his, but it's infinitely rewatchable. also probably the best leo performance until this year.
Alright if we’re doing Leo: 1. wolf of Wall Street 2. Hollywood 3. Aviator 4. Departed 5. Catch me if you can and the gap between 1 and 2 is WIDE
been hearing shutter island was mid-level for him until recently some more have been calling it his most underrated film. similar with bringing out the dead kinda
