took me a rewatch to clock that “the invite” doesn’t necessarily mean what people might’ve originally thought from learning the premise
This was fucking fantastic, completely lived up to the rave reviews. Incredible direction and acting from Wilde (this is honestly probably a career-defining movie from her all around), and the rest of the cast is amazing too. I always love Seth in everything he's in tbh but I really thought he was on fire this whole movie, and Norton and Cruz are pitch-perfect too Noticeably incredible writing too, I haven't really seen much else that Rashida and her partner have written (I think I saw Celeste and Jesse Forever when it first came out but remember nothing about it) but I was blown away by the script I hope this becomes a runaway success, the theater I saw it in at 1:30 on a Sunday was packed
Edward Norton was one of my favorite actors as a teenager (I was really into Fight Club) so it was pretty satisfying see him give maybe his best performance in 20 years here
Loved how he starting regressing towards the end after he told his story and Pina started psycho-analyzing Angela and Joe, especially when he was hiding behind the couch lmao. Just great acting all around
I thought I saw an interview with Norton recently where he said a lot of the dialogue was them just seeing where things would go without a set destination
I assumed there was some dialogue change because the original cast was supposed to be Tessa Thompson, Paul Rudd, and Amy Adams
Absolute banger. Wrote about it for my Substack: 'The Invite' Review: We get along, so why can't they?
watching this in an hour and im still the only ticket sold lol. we'll see how it is with no crowd I guess.
Sade playing in the office scene was killing me because it plays so much at my work that it’s like an inside joke with my coworkers. Favorite small part might have been Hawk saying “anyone want some Rooibos tea?” mid therapy session lol.
