1:1 blue dawn soap and vinegar worked to clean my shower pan. I’ve tried so many products and methods, and this finally did it.

I just sprayed it and let it sit for an hour and it all came off almost effortlessly. I have nowhere else to share this, so hopefully it helps someone in here.

Anyone have a suggestion for a simple interior design visualizer? Just looking for something so simple to use a dummy could do it to help get rough sketches of ideas for a bathroom.

My apartment is starting to feel more and more lived in, and cozier, but the only thing I feel like sharing at the moment is this new friend I bought for my kitchen shelf. I say good morning and good night to it. Living alone is wild.

Our shower needed to be replaced due to some serious rusting in the tub. Any recommendations for what to paint the drywalls? Originally were thinking of replacing the floor too and doing some type of green, but just don’t think it’s in the budget for a while so have to come up with something to marry up the blue floor tiles and new white for the shower. Is white the best option here?

Choosing paint colors is my nightmare. No matter how methodical I am in making the choice, I’m only pleased like 60% of the time.

That said, you could go with a white that matches your new tub tile, a shade of blue that’s in the same family as your floor tile but much lighter, or something complimentary to the combo of blue & white like grey.

Water leaks (again!) are so fun! We noticed our fridge leaking last night and water is underneath a few of our floorboards and some water is leaking from basement ceiling. Called insurance and ServPro but trying to mitigate ourselves. Last time we had a (way more significant) leak, ServPro basically tore apart our entire house and it was months and months of work.

Bought a new fridge too today.

IMG_2562.jpeg IMG_2564.jpeg IMG_2567.jpeg Had a similar situation a couple years back. Destroyed our laminate from a leaking fridge. Finally got new vinyl floors.

Also good bump. We put in new windows and a new sliding glass door last week. I’m very happy with the results:

any trouble with your insurance after repeat water issues? I’ve read horror stories online of people getting dropped after their second legit claim for minor water damage

You should put something under those fans, even if you raise them 3" off the ground.

We switch home/auto insurance every few years. Our significant water issue was in 2022, I was with Farmer's Insurance then. We switched to Grange Insurance last summer. So hopefully it won't be an issue considering this is the first time we've filed a claim with Grange. I just spoke to a rep yesterday who gave me a claim number. An actual agent is supposed to contact me later this week. I mainly filed a claim thinking ServPro would come to my house to rip everything up. But we had a plumber come out first (ServPro's recommendation when I called them) to for sure diagnose the issue and he said since the water is minimal and we caught it right away, he thought we could mitigate it ourselves by fanning it out/dehumidifier.

I checked the floor boards today before I went to work and no water was seeping through any longer, but I'm going to leave the fans/humidifier out for the next few days.

    Is this a fire hazard?

I wouldn't worry about a fire hazard really, but it can be. Mostly because of poor air flow.

    Google says:

"If a box fan tips and lies flat on the floor, the airflow can be restricted, which can lead to overheating of the electric motor and become a potential fire risk."

I'm at work right now, but I'll raise them when I get home. The one is brand new and the other is borrowed from my brother-in-law. I've read the newer ones have protections on them to refrain them from overheating. But a good idea to raise them nonetheless.

We had an insurance agent stop by today to look at the damage and he said 'you guys are killing it' and doing what 95% of people don't do and that's air everything out and run dehumidifiers. He said since the damage seems limited to just our Refrigerator End Panel and a few ceiling tiles, he thinks it's best we withdrawal the claim as the damages don't seem to outweigh the deductible. He said flooring seems absolutely fine and dried out.

I actually agree with him and told him my main concern originally when I filed the claim was that it may not dry out and water was going to spread across the bottom of our kitchen and ruin our new kitchen island/cabinets that we just put in last year and he said since we fanned/dehumidified instantly and kept it isolated to one area we pretty much eliminated all risks.

Even though we had a different insurance last time we had a water issue, he was aware of it because he said it transfers into our file with new insurance. But he said this claim is a 'no harm, no foul' and if anything changes, he can always open it back up with a click of a button.

We did buy a new fridge (appliances are not covered under insurance) and the guy who remodeled our kitchen is coming next week to take a look at the damaged panel. I told insurance that I do fear if he removes the panel their may be more damage on the other side where the cabinet meets it and he said he thinks the panel soaked up all the water, but if not, he can re-open the claim if additional work needs done.

Sounds like a best case scenario. Hope it checks out for you.

    Insurance is such a scam.

Our new fridge comes tomorrow. I paid Home Depot $50 to haul this one away when it arrives. However, we don’t have a garage fridge and now I’m thinking I kinda want to keep this and put it in my garage. Do you guys think a fridge like this would be too powerful for a garage outlet? I don’t want to plug this in and then my electricity keeps tripping. Or something worse happens…

Too fancy looking for a garage fridge. Needs to look like it’s on its last legs, barely working, and be older than a millennial to be a garage fridge.

Also…what in the world am I supposed to do with all the food/drinks in my current fridge/freezer while the new fridge takes 12-24 hours to get to the correct temperature?

fridge stuff put in coolers with ice and should be fine for the most part. freezer stuff you're kind of shit out of luck unless you can find another freezer to use, like a neighbor or something. Or if you decide to keep the old fridge use that.
