Completely forgot Cymbals Eat Guitars are coming out with an album. I was thinking today that I wasn't gonna have too much to look forward to the rest of the year, but then I remembered there's still so much amazing music on the horizon lol

I'm obviously late to this thread. What's the story behind the album cover?

Read their interviews leading up to this album cycle, it's brought up in a laughter of them.

    Shut the FFFFFFRESHFISH UP

I'm new to this band (listened to "Home, Like Noplace Is There" about two or three months ago) but I really like this album and kind of wish they were coming down to Louisiana on their upcoming tour instead of, you know, going completely around it. I can definitely see myself listening to this a bunch for the rest of the year.

Honestly doubt this will end up being my AOTY since I can't see it passing The 1975 but who knows.

I mean, I have pleasant surprises all the time too. Sometimes I'll listen to a record when I'm in a bad mood and won't like it, and then I'll revisit it and enjoy it a ton. That happened with at least one record that made my top 30 last year. But that album ended up back in the 20s somewhere, versus stuff like Jason Isbell or Noah Gundersen where I was in love with those records from the moment I pushed play.

Seriously, look at my top 10s from the past five years or so, there are maybe four or five albums I didn't love right away. That's not to say albums never grow on me. I'd just say my initial impulse of love-like-indifferent is a lot more accurate than it once was. Which favorites of yours did you not love or even like right away?

Sure, but is there anything really wrong with that? Or even really inaccurate? Like, I was calling Butch Walker's Afraid of Ghosts as my 2015 AOTY from the moment he dropped the first single in like, October 2014. It ended up at the top of my list and probably hit me harder emotionally than any other album this decade. When you know the artists you love most and know that you like the general direction they're taking with an upcoming album, it's not that ridiculous to predict that it will be your AOTY. It's also fun when something comes out of nowhere and grabs that title, but we all have favorite artists for a reason, you know?

I don't know if I like it better than the 1975 either, and that already got passed for me, so I doubt this ends up at the top of my list. But it will be on my list which I'm glad about, since 2015 was the first year ever where no scene albums landed on my list.

Yeah, this'll probably make my top 10 at least. What's your favourite of the year so far?

Off the top of my head from recently - The Dangerous Summer's first two records, Bon Iver, Bon Iver, Noah Gundersen's Ledges, One Direction's Four, and Taylor Swift's Red. I liked most of those to varying degrees on first listen, but definitely didn't think they'd end up as favorites. I'm sure there are plenty more too.

Probably this: Parker Millsap - The Very Last Day • chorus.fm

Though honestly, right now, I don't have a clear favorite. Really liked The 1975, really liked Parker Millsap, really liked Sturgill Simpson, really liked Brian Fallon, really like this. That's probably by top five right now, but I don't think any of them would have made my top five last year, so I'm guessing two or three albums will come in and pass all of them for me.

Interesting. Excepting Four, those are all favorites of mine and were all records I loved on first listen.

Actually the 1975's self titled too, that was a big one I forgot. I didn't like that at all the first time

That one had great timing for me. I think the first time I listened I liked it but didn't love it, but it leaked the day before I proposed to my wife and I was playing it all weekend, so it pretty much automatically became a favorite after that.

    He's a well-kept secret!

Yeah, I don't know. I don't think any of my favorites would make my top 10/15 of the decade so far, so it's hard to say if I've had a big "love" album yet. It's also just unfair for me to be comparing this year to last year, though, since last year I had probably my second favorite top five from any year. And my favorite top five, from 2004, yielded three of my top 10 albums of all time, so that's saying a lot.

The 1975 would probably make my top 15 of the decade but nothing else would really come close. I'm hopeful for the rest of the year though!
