Just thought I'd look to see when these guys were playing near me and they played like 20 mins away last night. :/
If I am able to drive to Seattle to see them, I hope they play a lot from Home Tbh... Just cause it may be my last / only chance to see them play a set with a lot of those songs. But also, I havnt heard Goodness yet so I'm sure lots could change when I do haha. Also - according to letlist.fm, they've done the same set every night so far on this European stretch... Do you think once Goodness drops the setlist will change though? Add more goodness tracks?
From the looking at the setlist I doubt it. They've already got 4 songs on there from Goodness, I bet they finish out the tour with that setlist to complete the Home cycle/bring in the Goodness cycle. Next time they go tour I bet there will be more from Goodness, but not yet.
I like "Soft Animal," but I wish the chorus was a little...faster, I guess? It's not like it's lacking energy vocally, but the single guitar strums are kind of weak imo. Much prefer "Piano Player"
I've still yet to hear Soft Animal (holding out until the album) but I'm very excited to, it sounds like a lot of people really love it
Both songs are amazing, goodness pt. 2 is fucking incredible and made even better by the context of goodness pt. 1, and sun is just like... oh my god. Ugh. Give me this album already. Also PUP. Just found a song by them called Oceans from when they were called Topanga and it's just awesome. May 27th will be an incredible day.
I absolutely love the steady down-ward strum of the guitar in the chorus of "Soft Animal". I think the tone in that part is so beautiful.
I always put this album out of by mind hoping I'll check back and the release date will be super close. This has not happened yet.
Seeing them live and the anticipation for this has only made me listen to Home more and it probably is my favourite album ever. I feel bad saying that for what is a two year old album but nothing else has hit me as hard as it did and consistently stayed interesting for that long. I have an exam Tuesday I'm very much screwed for but all I can think about is this release. Hurry up May 27!!!
Can't say Home is my number one but it's certainly up there, haha. All my favourite albums are 2000s+, though. Not really delved back in the years and I don't particularly feel the need to. I kinda rate my favourite albums on how much I've consistently listened to them through the years rather than how I feel at the moment.
Yeah that's fair, but then again I'd probably listen to stuff like TDAG which is probably my #1 or up there consistently less than most albums (because Limousine is not the best song for 9am tube commutes haha) but doesn't mean it's not a favourite. Mine do change quite often, will be interesting in like 5 or 10 years if I still like the same albums. Home has been strong for a good two years but nothing has really changed for me much during them so idk
I can relate to the whole contemporary music preference thing, but man, there's a lot of shit out there from the past you need in yr life @MFA
Home is probably my 3rd favorite album ever at this point. Maybe. It changes so often that trying to keep tabs on a static list is futile for me. But it's an album i consider one of my favorites and one of the most ***important***pieces of art in the world to me.
after really liking but not having my life changed by Home, i finally got around to listening to INGO. fuck, these guys are really something else. "Weathered" is quickly becoming my favorite Hotelier song + year-defining song. it's not objectively better than Home by any means but it's been easier to relate to. guess it's the right place+right time factor that wasn't there for the follow up. also glad to have it so it stops me from listening to the Goodness songs too much!
Home is also a top 3 album for me. And yes my dear friend @MFA check out The Cure, The Smiths, several 90s bands, all that good stuff.
I don't care much for the Smiths/Morrisey.. but the Cure, oh the Cure are amazing, life changing etc adjectives it's impossible to choose only 5 pre-2000's artists, but if I had to suggest some shit, I would say: Miles Davis Velvet Underground Cure Prince Wu Tang there are some I like more than these, but these are artists that everyone should know --------- back to the Hotelier... I've never heard their first (Hotel Year), I will correct that tomorrow... please release the fucking album already
