I feel like I'm in the exact state of mind I need to be for this record right now, according to what everyone is saying, hopefully that doesn't change in the next couple weeks haha
They're dropping Discomfort Revisited on their EU tour it seems :( love that song, so underrated and the first verse has some of the best lyrics off Home. Playing Life In Drag though which nearly makes up for it. Also Goodness review I just saw The Hotelier - Goodness | Upset
Oh they're playing fucking Life In Drag when I see them on saturday holy fuck that's probably one of my favourite songs on Home, thanks for the heads up! Couldn't be more stoked. First gig I've seen in a while too. HERE WE GO
happen to be in london monday travelling, so ill be going to their show with II/OI. so so so excited to (hopefully) see soft animal live.
I wish it was me, I have drunkenly tried to contact Tiny Engines for a review copy of the album for my uni newspaper with no luck aha And yeah Life In Drag was so good when I saw it last year, if they're following a Brand New type progression for their albums I'd love a Daisy-esque heavier one after Goodness! Wishful thinking though lol
I think it's more about the leaps and bounds The Hotelier is making album to album that attracts the Brand New comparisons. Not their sound. all though most of us havnt heard Goodness yet, a couple people that have heard it have compared it to the progression of TDAG
Yeah it's moreso the progression comparison. I'd also compare it to Minerals progression from The Power Of Failing to EndSerenading.
I knew it would get you excited haha. Much like how Mineral played around with structure and more space, The Hotelier do the same on here.
It's just strange to me because I think TDAG is in an entirely different ballpark from Deja, while Piano Player and Soft Animal just seem like a natural progression from Home to me. Of course I realize I haven't listened to Goodness yet, but I'm not expecting to be flipped on my head by it.
"Piano Player" hit me the same way "Sowing Season" did in that it feels like quite a leap and something special. The rest of the album and some cuts in particular also give me that feeling like "Sun" and "End Of Reel". But we'll see how it goes, 21 more days.
Even if we're only talking progression, I have a real hard time comparing this to TDAG. Seems like a major stretch in every way, though I do understand INGO -> Home being their YFW -> Deja
I don't think anyone is comparing Goodness to TD&G... That's like the biggest album of this scene, period. Again, I think people are just saying this album is a huge leap forward, kinda like that album was. Just referencing TD&G because it's something most of us will get.
I don't think the progression is comparable tbh. It's a clear progression but calling it a huge leap forward does a disservice to Home. Same with INGO to Home.
Yeah let it be known I havnt heard the record so I have absolutely no idea... I'm not trying to make any claims because I simply havnt heard it... I just don't think anyone was meaning to "compare" this to TD&G. I was just trying to paraphrase what other people were saying - but perhaps it isn't my place and I should just let people defend themselves. Anyway. i can't wait to hear it lol.
