he gave a lot of reasons for not feeling like writing music anymore throughout the night I don't think it was any one thing
damn I noticed that the bday was coming up on monday and made a mental note to post but I got SCOOPED
2016 was fucking ridiculous. This, The White Album and WORRY. all alternate for my favorite album of the year on any given day.
I had an amazing drive/adventure to a small canyon a bit north of me the week these came out(Little River Canyon in Alabama). That was a perfect Saturday. All 3 of these albums make my thoughts swell with memories of that day.
Man that’s wild! I have memories of all 3 of these related to a trip with my wife that weekend around the Georgia/Alabama line.
It's fun to go back in this thread and see everyone's opinions. Even without the Brand New baggage, this is a much better album than TDAG and should have started a revolution within the scene. Maybe it's young enough that it still can. Regardless, still fun to see people reacting to this post, lol.
It's better than anything just about anyone in the scene did. Anytime I get drawn into a conversation about this album I put it on and get pulled into the exact moment I heard it for the first time. I can't think of many albums that do that. As a self conscious, anxious person I look for hyperbole or examples of me over-exaggerating how much I love this album as I listen again and...I can't find any. It is a perfect album IMO.
Agreed 100%. This album got me through a breakup pretty much singlehandedly. Being from New Hampshire growing up in a wooded neighborhood I just immediately connected with the vibe, it’s just so New England in the best way. So many vivid memories of driving backroads blasting this record.
Yeah, if Home is the suburbs this is absolutely the back rural roads you drive getting to/from them. Home is an important record. I hold it close to my heart. But as I get older and older this one speaks to me more and more. Such a universal, brilliant piece of art. The only reason I can see for it not being an incredibly groundbreaking record among the scene/alternative music in general is how challenging the themes in it are. I hope in years to come people revisit it and realize what a masterpiece it is.
I love this band and this album. It surprises me how little recognized they get. Especially with the hype I feel Home... got.
I completely agree, musically it just feels so warm and peaceful to me. No other record gives me the feeling Goodness does. Home is funny because I liked them when they were The Hotel Year and my study abroad roommate (now one of my best friends) asked if I’d heard the new Hotelier record and I didn’t think I knew them. As soon as I hit play I realized they’d changed their name. Home is great but it’s a difficult listen, Goodness is like the warmth on the other side. I’m a little drunk so I don’t know if that makes sense but yeah haha.
