Very close and worthy adversary I heard that song for the first time the day my little kitten had to be put down due to seizures so I can't listen to it as often but it gave me great solace
Very cool how songs can take on lives of their own - for me it was death and for you it was life and I like that
i have a real hard time choosing between dendron, discomforted, soft animal, two deliverances, and end of reel as their objective best song.
Tbh they're all worthy, one of few bands where I don't believe in an objective best as they all mean so much to us in very different yet visceral ways Still Sun for me tho
I’m going for it. SA is #1, rest is no real order. 1. Soft Animal — Dendron An Introduction In Framing Discomfort Revisited Title-Track Two Deliverances You In This Light Among the Wildflowers An Ode to the Nite Ratz Club
my favorite is sun, but i think end of reel is the one that i think of as their best song dendron is close and was definitely there before i ever heard end of reel lol
The first time I heard the end of It Must Get Lonely from the new TWY record it reminded me of Sun for some reason. Specifically the "It must get obvious enough that I'm not ever gonna change" but made me think of "Carved your name across the sky in a fit of exiting".
End of reel is my favorite very easily. Been listening to dendron a lot and thinking a lot about the line at the end “cut off my arm at the bone in solidarity, capital teaches that there’s less when you share.” I think that’s one of Christians best songs, lyrically, and I think that line stands out even still
I would love some literary analysis of thier albums. I know that Christians political stances play a role lyrically and there are some obvious ones like Dendron and Your Deep Rest, but a deep dive into the concepts he's conveying could be very cool. He's an anachro-something, yes?
IM ON IT RIGHT AFTER I GET OFF WORK yeah they/he are an anarchist, I’m not sure if Christian has ever put a label on it beyond that but it boils down to believing people can congregate and delegate without the need of institutions which ultimately cause more harm than good. There’s more nuance to it but it’s very much a philosophy I subscribe to as well, it just comes with the recogniztion that most people don’t believe that and it’s making small changes and tiny impacts where we can.
My top three songs are still Your Deep Rest (which got me into the band and also is just great), Introduction and Dendron. And I love the entire Goodness album lol
