I've never listened to Sun, including that bridge, and not felt a lot better about my life, haha. I don't listen to Goodness as often anymore specifically because I don't want that feeling to fade. End Of Reel is probably the better song, but they're both my favorites on the album, and I appreciate End Of Reel on an also visceral level. but also YOU AND ME, TWIN FIRING MACHINES SPENDING ALL OUR ENERGY and the rest of that verse is like a top five set of lyrics on that album. And then there's this moment in End of Reel that also never fails to give me chills: Goodness, present and hallowed Is thanking walls of the shallow Embankments for flowing in over the Ranks of soldiering messes of Dayglow blades scorched by hovering halos Washing away until I don't even cringe at the thought of you
That verse from end of reel destroys me. But I can't deny that the very end of sun is one of the best moments in their discography Speaking of, I think title track is a really underrated song - the end especially is one of my favorite blocks of lyrics Christians ever written
i absolutely adore Goodness. My AOTY for 2016, and one one my favorite albums period... Home remains to be in my Top 3 albums of all time though.
starting from "my life's a flower"? that song actually completely reminds me of what they were going for on Goodness, too true that it's underrated
"And oh, the resonant calm comes hard and hums off the walls of the block uncarved. It's new, but I don't know what to do with sight of you brimming." One of my favorite parts of the entire album. But really End Of Reel has 3 moments I could argue are my favorite moments of the album. The one I just mentioned, "the kind of thing that hangs inside a moment" part, and the first time it breaks into the chorus.
Yeah, I absolutely love that whole section. I totally get goodness vibes from it too, now that goodness exists, haha
Here I'm trying to enjoy a great Tiny Engines release (Sinai Vessel) but now bc of this thread I just wanna listen to Goodness on repeat
Just opened for The Hotelier and Crying. Crying are incredible and so much fun. The Hotelier, man, are on another level. The songs off Goodness sounds incredible live. Great to see them having now digested the latest album for a while. All-in-all, had such a kind, fun, special time tonight. They gave me the record for free too which was a bonus!
Was at the Leeds show last night, they never fail to be less than incredible live. Took my camera down and took some shots, which proves difficult when also attempting to sing along ha. Shameless plug if anyone's interested - https://www.flickr.com/photos/romyoco/albums/72157675785675283 Think this is my favourite image of the night: You were awesome, hope you enjoyed playing as much as I enjoyed watching you!
These photos are great! I'm happy you enjoyed watching me. Would it be OK if I post some of these photos on my pages? (w/ credit ofc) :)
Thank you, really glad you like them! Speak is one of my favourite songs, really enjoyed it acoustic last night :) Yeah of course, please do whatever you want with them!
Last night in Glasgow was my third time seeing them and they just get better and better! There are so many standout moments from songs that I keep playing over again in my head - "a little birrrrd" from Goodness Pt.2, the woah-oh-ohs in Intro, the outro of Dendron to name a few... Very special band and I hope they continue to make music for a long, long time.
I'm guessing we get a final record and tour in 2018 and they will be done.. brand new and hotelier gone in 2018 would be devastating
Im sure theyll write and release music in some capacity after the Hotelier is through As for brand new, theyve been gone for a long ass time
Much more than sonically, I wonder where they might go thematically. Goodness feels like an end of the road, like narratively they've reached the place and headspace they'd like to be in and occupy. But I think they could just as easily keep going in that vein but with a greater emphasis on lyrical abstraction and maybe less emphasis on the self? P much go the Sunny Day Real Estate route. Anyways excited about their future and whatnot
it would be kind of cool if they just did a pissed off political punk record haha doubt it, but you know, I love when bands do the opposite to what people expect
I think that's the album full of "Life in Drag"s and "Weathered" that people wanted for a hot minute before realizing we might be better off without it
