Gonna listen to this on my ride home, first one of the member compilations that has landed in my tastes enough for me to want to check out. The artwork is killer, btw.
oh shit that comp is really cool, almost done with it, really enjoyed them all, but Sun is so interesting because it's almost completely different but still really fucking cool
just curious, but on the comp it sounded like this was gonna flow into something else, was that on purpose? ((very, very cool cover btw!))
everytime i decide a song is the best song ever by the Hotelier, i always go back and listen to Dendron and i realize i was wrong.
i kind of feel that way about a lot of songs on Goodness. Like, I have my favorites and then another one will suddenly hit me like new, and then I'll listen to Sun or End of Reel and be like okay, this is still the best buuuut, the rest comes real close (it was two deliverances today, this album ages well)
Piano Player could be the most under rated Hotelier song for me. I feel like I don't see it praised nearly as much as it should be. There is such genius behind that song.
Gonna shamelessly drop this here. It's my contribution to the Hotelier comp, except the mix is a little tighter and you have to look at my gross face.
Honestly wouldn't be surprised if this was it and Christian started a solo project. Whatever they end up doing, I'll listen.
i just don't seem to think in terms of trilogies like some of y'all. i gotta make time to listen to that podcast Christian was just on
The podcast Christian stated he would like The Hotelier to have an arc to it so while it's not a fully planned or anything it's not something that will just continue until no one cares.
ugh. i wanna listen to that podcast but its finals season... will probably have to wait till tomorrow.
goodness does feel like the end of a trilogy but not the end of the band. i can see a big stylistic shift coming next, perhaps something way more mellow and toned down, as was hinted at throughout goodness.
when i talked to christian they said they saw the three as a trilogy with end of reel sort of capping off that chapter of the band. havent had a chance to listen to the podcast yet tho so idk if that was just a retread
Basically all he said was that the band had a lifeline and they wouldn't be going on forever. He said he wanted it to feel like a large narrative arc at the end of the band but didn't necessarily say that the arc had been completed or when it would be completed. Either way I'm ready for whatever they decide to do. Would be sad if they ended but they gave me two of my favorite all time albums so I can't complain
ah alright. thats a very cool idea. same as you tho, im sure ill be happy with anything they do, even if theyre done
I like this idea that bands kind of plan to leave on their terms now, but I'm sad that this band is gonna be over someday even though every band has an expiration date except like built to spill, probably. institutions, yknow
I can't remember if I've mentioned this before but does anyone else sometimes think The Hotelier sound like a heavier version of The Weakerthans?
