Posted this in the Boston thread as well, but Christian is playing solo at this event, if any local MA fans are around. Info from the event page: "doubleYou collective presents re/birth, a queer and trans art show centered around the topic of re/birth. As queer and trans persons, we have to find new forms of identity, family, and community. Rising from the ashes to greet the world. 25% of art purchases will go to queer prisoner support. All the gig money will go to bands and show expenses."
wait, so the above has me wondering if I've been using the wrong pronouns for Christian does anyone know what they prefer? I'll just use neutral until I find out
Thank you both! This makes me see Life in Drag from a new perspective -- I always thought that narrative was about a friend since most of the album seems to be reactionary, but maybe it was a little of both
Christian has elaborated that LID is actually about a friend's abusive significant other and how christian feels his perception of masculinity contributes to that, interestingly. Which I never woulda guessed
damn, the Hotelier with the constant curve balls. LID, Housebroken and police brutality, the first time I listened to Goodness and it starting with the spoken word track lol. Cool though, good to know. also while I have you here, Left & Leaving is cool, don't love it though, but I hear the Weakerthans are a band you have to let sit for a while anyway
nice, excellent. I liked L&L after the one listen but it felt like it was too long sometimes -- i'll listen to both today though, don't like giving hot takes
Everyone in here is aware that we are doing a Hotelier tribute album this month right? If you want to participate in it, here's the link with all the info and shiiiiiit Chorus.fm Member Compilations - THE HOTELIER (Due Nov. 20)
Yeah haha. Quite the tricky band Haha. Yeah, it takes a while. I think RS is generally the one that most people would reach for, so I would suggest trying that out if you like the folkier elements of L&L. I definitely think it's a grower tho, and I'm glad you didn't hate it!
Just put this on again and "Piano Player" hit me really hard. I've always liked it, never loved it, and something about it just clicked today.
Also, I enjoyed this as a (late) spring and a summer album, but I think it really has its home as a fall record.
Between the stress of this never-ending, monumentally frustrating election, registering for classes, homework, and my own general anxiety, I really needed this album today, and I'm thankful that it exists.
Emergency and I Left & Leaving and The Execution of All Things are 3 super influential albums for this band and I recommend them all
Saw in Facebook somewhere that home is like if songs on left & leaving didn't have happy endings. Made me laugh
Reconstruction Site is great. Real good album. Left & Leaving is better and one of the greatest indie rock albums of all time
Just gonna jump right in here, I've only listened to left&leaving and reconstruction site and liked the latter much more
