Oh shit. Dendron, Intro, Discomfort Scope, Your Deep Rest, Life In Drag In Framing, Among The Wildflowers, Housebroken Besides Dendron and Intro, which have always been my clear favorites, the gap between rest of the songs is extremely narrow.
Went to see if there were any live videos for Settle the Scar. Apparently there is; from August 2014. My mind is blown.
Wildflowers, life in drag, intro, Your deep rest, scope, discomfort, Dendron, in framing, housebroken
The band has said that the albums are connected. If it weren't they wouldn't drop such obvious throwbacks (like the reference to Nite Ratz in Life In Drag). It's not as obvious and doesn't beat you over the head like, say, The Wonder Years references. I can't do tiers but I will say that "End Of Reel" and "Piano Player" are tied for my favorite Hotelier tracks
I used to like them a lot (my username isn't a reference to them though it's a Capn Jazz reference) but for whatever reason I just don't care for them anymore. Dans voice is kind of grating, the past references feel ham fisted, the music has gotten stale and lacking progression (which I know is hypocritical of me since I'm a huge Bayside fan but I'd argue that they've experimented more than TWY) and the JJR stuff has really colored my perception of the band as a whole. Plus my musical horizons have expanded tremendously since 2013 so I've just found better bands/artists.
i feel like the referencing is less of an intentional attempt to tie together the records and more something that arises organically from whatever ties there are. idk if i'm putting this right or if it even makes any sense but yeah also agree that twy references are very corny
i know you say that but i think that's just a cover-up that happened to fall into your lap after a little bit of googling
It definitely feels more organic and subtle instead of a reference every other song that feels super ham fisted and unnecessary.
i took still brazy to the gym then made myself a huge breakfast and sat outside reading calvin and hobbes while i ate. phenomenal morning tbh
Fair enough my dude fair enough. I mean I won't lie I definitely felt it to be an upturned reference to TWY but after the JJR stuff I never want to be associated with that band. Glad I didn't get the giant pigeon tattooed on me
i also thought about getting a twy tattoo at one point and am also glad i didnt. i aint sincerely calling you a liar haha its mostly just bc even knowing its not primarily a twy reference thats what it sticks out as in my mind because of my own history with that band/that song
