I havn't heard the majority of these songs live yet but the ones that I have heard sound very comparable to the studio versions. I think there is something to be said about the "realness" of music that they were trying to capture on this record. I definitely hear it. The vocals are almost always at the same level like they are live, so when the music is loud the vocals are buries more much like a live performance. I also think that while I'm sure the drums are very edited they have a very live sound to them. A lot of time at shows what do you hear the most of.. Drums! than guitar, than vocals, than bass. I think this album captures that well. I can picture this band playing these songs live when listening to them, which isn't always true. There are a lot of records that sound too good, and its hard to imagine them recapturing that sound live.. a lot of times they don't..
I did. My Thrice experience has got me paranoid about receiving the right variant, though (got the same as you, I'm pretty sure).
Sucks that you got the wrong Thrice variant, but this is an entirely different label, so hopefully you don't have to worry.
was anyone doing it before orchid tapes sending out tea. Edit: I may not know what's actually being talked about
Really love these lyrics from Settle The Scar: "You made a map of how you loved and drew a perfect circle. I scribbled a Venn diagram. I guess I lost my stable hand. and I am feeling long cold winters. I'm lost and can't remember the ways to keep myself as warm as then."
I don't know how many listens I'm on at this point, maybe five or six, but my favorites are definitely Soft Animal, End Of Reel, and Settle The Scar. I find myself more interested in the back half than I do the front. Outside of the three interludes, Goodness Pt. 2 and Piano Player are probably the ones I enjoy the least. Even then, I still enjoy them (as well as the interludes). I've seen a lot of love for Two Deliverances and that song hasn't quite clicked for me yet, but I definitely do like it. Settle The Scar onward is what really grabs me though. Album is really great from that point out.
Finally listened to this for the first time last night, and am now I'm pulling some songs out on their own. (I know thats odd, and I'd prefer to listen to the album through, but I don't have time for the full album.) I really like it even after that one listen, I really really liked it. I imagine that I'm only going to grow fonder of it as I listen to it. Cant wait for my vinyl to show up, but I still haven't gotten my email, so i guess I'll have to wait
Same I'm still trying to see Two Deliverance in the same light( pun partially intended) as other people are seeing it on this thread.
except for 20 dollar single LPs/being awful at mailorder for like years (taking forever to send stuff out, sending wrong records)...heard he's getting better at it but jeez, have i had nothing but bad experiences with them, yes.
I think $20 is pretty fair for a record, man sending wrong records is inexcusable though... but man, they put out so much cool shit, give them a second chance
eh, a single LP when you're first starting a label? that's more than a ton of established labels sell singles for yeah, i waited about six months to get my alex g DSU first pressing and got sent a third instead. was not very happy with that. not to mention the reason i waited so long was because i was waiting for another record i bought from them...then when i bought a record from their anniversary sale, they just missed the order and took like three months to send that... after the horror stories of birdtapes, warren should have been a little more careful
I agree all of that was veeeeeeeeeeeery clumsy of him but the price is fine - new or old, a label costs money, and the dude obviously isn't making a living off the label people who put out shit I like can have my $$$ - come on, you can afford it
Listening to this album while taking a walk around my neighborhood tonight really helped it click more with me. Right now I'm really into Piano Player and Two Deliverances. Going to have to listen to it again on my walk tomorrow.
Goodness Pt 2 and Two Deliverances are total favorites right now my record shipped out as well and i can't wait for it to get here to blast those two
