Left and Leaving is definitely one of my favorites of all time too. Just behind Home and The Devil and God for me.
Yo so me and my buddy who are traveling for the show tomorrow are going to a Mariners game before the show. The game starts at 12. Obviously because we did this big drive to see the Hotelier we wanna be up front for the show. If we get there to the venue at like 330-4 do y'all think we will be in the front / close to the front? I have no idea what to expect in terms of attendance because I don't live in Seattle. @TheWater(s) might have a good idea?
It's a small show, doubt more than 50 people will be there when the first band goes on, nobody will be there before doors
It took me quite a while to understand and appreciate Home, so I'm giving this album endless chances until it clicks. Right now I can't see why it is so special for so many people, but it is probably just a matter of time. I still think it is a very good album. Am I the only one who thinks some melodies of End of Reel sound very similar to the outro of Cigarettes & Saints by TWY? Not that I'm saying it was intentional at all.
The only similarities I hear are the theres a quiet bit and then it gets very loud at the end. The Hotelier do it much, much better.
Oh wow. Well that will make it easy with the baseball game then. If you're Casey and I'm at the end of a line, I'm holding you accountable.
yeah no offense to TWY because I still enjoy that band but EOR is a better song than anything that band has written, and its not even the best Hotelier song.
Well, I wasn't talking about the quality of the songs. I understand your point of view, but in my case it is much easier to connect emotionally with TWY. Of course, it's all subjective.
I like "Cigarettes & Saints" more than "End of Reel", haha. The former is possibly my favourite Wonder Years song though and the latter wouldn't come close to my favourite Hotelier song.
Same. There was a time where I worshiped TWY. Now I just like them but I prefer some of their peers instead (like Bayside for example I know I'm emo trash). But this band is something really special.
I love the way that guitar riff from the third coordinates track is used again throughout You In This Light, or some variation of a similar riff.
I'm sure this is an absolutely absurd request but I'm really struggling to find this... Does anyone have a link to the entire album's lyrics online? Every site I've found is out of order or incomplete. Thank you!!
"Cigarettes and Saints" is an incredibly well written song. I think TWY are a bit overrated and I really did not love NCTH, but that song is really something.
Yeah, C&S is a great song on a lackluster album. You can hum the guitar riff that starts the bridge (outro?) of C&S and it matches up perfectly with the beginning of end of reel, and I haven't listened to the songs back to back, but they seem to be in similar keys as well. Nothing wrong with that at all, and by no means do I think the hotelier "ripped them off" or anything, but there are definitely similarities there.
I like Wonder Years a lot, and literally bought tickets to see them in London this morning, and I actually thought that in places NCTH was a great album and one of my favourites last year (admittedly it was a really shit year for music but whatever). But honestly the better songs on NCTH are very very influenced by Hotelier stuff, including Cigarettes and Saints. I'm not suggesting that TWY ripped off them, or that it isn't a brilliant song in its own right, but think End of Reel/any Hotelier stuff is them doing their entirely own thing.
